Q&A with Ajahn Suchart Abhijato

Q: There are a lot of thoughts in the mind.

Tan Ajahn: Stop them using a mantra. Budho, Budho.

Q: I'm thinking about directions, like feeling lost.

Tan Ajahn: You don't have mindfulness, so you get lost in your thoughts and your thoughts can be confusing sometimes. So stop thinking and then you won't be lost. When you stop thinking, you'll find peace and happiness.

Q: I’m feeling lost about the future, like the direction that I would like to take.

Tan Ajahn: That's because you think that way. If you stop thinking then you don't have those thoughts and this confusion in your mind.

You know that there's no future, there's no past; all there is now is the present when you stop thinking. Then there's no need to worry about the future or the past as long as you can be happy in the present. So keep the mind in the present using mindfulness and meditation.

When the mind is happy in the present then it doesn't matter what the future will be, because it will always be happy.

Because there's no future. The future is in the present. The past is in the present. If you make the present happy, then you will always be happy. Simple.

So, mindfulness, meditation. Stop thinking.
