The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund To reach out to every child in need and provide them with the resources to do well in school The Fund supports more than 10,000 children and youth a year.

The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund started in 2000 as a community project initiated by The Straits Times to provide pocket money to children from low-income families to help them through school. The children can use this money for school-related expenses, such as buying a meal during recess, paying for transport or using it to meet other schooling needs. The financial help also eases the burden of the many parents who are already struggling to feed their families on their meagre incomes. Since the project started in 2000, the Fund has disbursed more than $90m and helped over 200,000 cases of children and youth in providing them with monthly school pocket money. STSPMF was established as a Trust on 20 October 2010 with a Board of Trustees and was granted charity status on 14 November 2011 with Institution of A Public Character (IPC) status effective from 1 January 2012. Since its inception as a community project to its transition to a full-fledged charity, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund has been working closely with its strategic partner, the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). On 7 October 2016, STSPMF annnounced its partnership with MOE and all mainstream schools. Students from low-income families will be able to apply for the school pocket money fund in their schools.

Celebrating Children’s Day with our partners and supporters!

On 2 October 2026, STSPMF celebrated our annual Appreciation Event, bringing together our valued disbursing partners, donors and supporters to recognise the difference we can make together for children and families.

Helmed by two students Emcees, Kaylon and Izzah, highlights included a beautiful Chinese Dance performance by Chua Chu Kang Primary School, an inspiring sharing by our beneficiary, Krystal, from West Spring Primary School, announcement of an exciting partnership between Quantedge Foundation and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund called the "Social Mobility Fund" and sharing by Mr. Jeik Sohn of Capital Group.

We are also very grateful to the very generous donation of $500,000 from Mr. Mohamed Abdul Jaleel, Founder and Chief Executive of MES Group.

A heartfelt thank you to all our donors, partners, schools, volunteers and supporters for your unwavering support. Together, we continue to open doors, create opportunities and empower children to dream bigger.

A day of smiles, creativity and Sesame Street magic!

On 28 September, 15 STSPMF beneficiary students from Lianhua Primary School enjoyed a special private preview of the Sesame Street exhibition at Marina Square.

The children had lots to see and discover as they explored the colourful exhibition, enjoyed lunch together and received a special take-home gift. It was a joyful afternoon filled with new experiences, laughter and happy memories.

A big thank you to Marina Square Singapore, COEXIST Culture and Sesame Street for creating this wonderful experience for our children and giving them the opportunity to explore, discover and dream bigger!

We look forward to more meaningful experiences that bring joy, inspiration and new possibilities to our children!

A big thank you to Tokio Marine Life Insurance Singapore Pte. Ltd. for organising the Tokio Marine Healthy Wallet Heroes workshop and for your kind donation of $10,000 to STSPMF!

Our beneficiaries had a wonderful time putting financial literacy into practice. With guidance from Tokio Marine’s dedicated volunteers, each child received a $60 grocery shopping voucher and headed into the supermarket to make their own purchasing decisions — balancing their budget while choosing healthier food options.

Through this fun and meaningful hands-on experience, the children learnt about budgeting, making thoughtful choices and getting the most out of every dollar — practical life skills they can carry with them beyond the workshop.
