Can swap the 3rd para to the 1st? Need the first para to be the hook.

Since “who we are” is tied closely to “what we do”, most retirees focus on financial and physical health, but few prepare well for their mental and spiritual well-being after retirement.

Last month on 18 April, FES was proud to present our very first Micro-Learning Session. As Singapore officially enters a “super-aged” society in 2026, the session was for Seniors and very aptly on the important topic of finding purpose and meaning after retirement.

The participants were enlightened as presenter John Ooi shared about the four stages of retirement and guided the participants in a helpful and thought-provoking exercise to discover their identity, purpose and meaning in their golden years.

Watch this space for updates on upcoming Micro-Learning Sessions - bite-sized sessions designed around all topics related to building a family and maintaining a happy one!

On 7 May, FES organized our third Micro-Learning course, “Handcrafted Love.” In this hands-on workshop, participants learned to style the freshest seasonal blooms and took home beautiful handcrafted bouquets for Mother’s Day.

Our botanical artist, Angeline Lim, shared essential floral styling tips and introduced each flower variety.

Despite having no prior experience, every participant successfully created a unique design. The joy and sense of achievement shone brightly in their smiles!

Here is a feedback from one of our participants:

“This workshop on how to make a bouquet was wonderful and refreshing. We learnt to create a unique, beautiful, and practical bouquet for our loved ones. The floral selection was amazing - hydrangeas, peonies, roses, exotic tulips and an amazing “magic wand” grass from Italy.

I loved how the bouquet turned out so fresh, beautiful, and spontaneous—as if someone had gone for a lovely garden walk and collected these beautiful flowers as a gift.

Best of all, experiencing all the beauty imparted a deep sense of joy. Thank you, Angeline, for your thoughtful instruction, careful preparation, and for pulling out all the stops on the selection of amazing flowers. And also to the dedicated and faithful FES team for organizing this.

I must say that I was Surprised by Joy, in this experience!”

“Can we just be engaged for the rest of our lives?” 💍

When Germaine said “yes” to Aaron, she didn’t expect the old shadows of fear to come rushing back. After the trauma of her past, the thought of committing again felt less like a dream and more like a risk she wasn’t sure she could take.

It led to a difficult 9 months. Nine months of second-guessing, deep conversations, and wrestling with the “what ifs.”

Did they make it to the altar? Here is the raw, honest story of fighting for love when your heart wants to run.

💬 Have you ever had to fight through fear to choose love? Let’s talk in the comments.

Germaine was haunted by past trauma and the fear of falling in love again, while Aaron persevered in the pursuit of the love of his life. Will their love bear fruit? Stay tuned.

Aaron and Germaine were our first featured couple in ‘Songs of Life’ back in 2023. Theirs is a love story that has been truly tested.

Are you feeling restless, lost, or aimless about your retirement?

Working persons in Singapore generally retire in their 60s.  However, apart from financial preparation (perhaps), there is often little psychological preparation to enter a new stage of life.  There is an initial ‘vacation’ phase where they enjoy doing what they want and having no set routine.  Subsequently though, they may feel bored, directionless, and lost. They may become fearful of aging and their declining capabilities. The long-awaited golden years loses its lustre.

On 18th April, John Ooi will be running a 3-hour workshop on how to design a life of meaning and purpose after retirement.

This workshop offers a supportive space for participants to navigate the emotional terrain of retirement. Through practical exercises, participants will engage in guided self-discovery to match their wealth of strengths and interests to the needs and opportunities they have observed.
