PRIME MINISTER LAWRENCE WONG SPEAKS AT RELAUNCH OF SINGAPORE PRESS CLUB EMINENT SPEAKER SERIES (8 JUNE 2026)

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was the guest-of-honour at the relaunch of the Singapore Press Club’s Eminent Speaker Series on Monday June 8. The event, presented by SPH Foundation, was titled "Singapore at 61: What’s ahead?".

PM Wong began with brief opening remarks where he outlined what Singapore was doing to review its economic strategies amid a changing global order. He noted that Singapore was also becoming more diverse as a society, and while this is a source of strength, the country must continue to remain cohesive to move ahead in a more uncertain and fractured world.

Prime Minister Wong also participated in an hour-long dialogue moderated by Singapore Press Club Vice President Zakir Hussain, an associate editor at The Straits Times. He fielded various questions including on the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict, the impact of AI on jobs, disinformation and the media’s role in countering it, the outlook for US-China relations as well as Singapore’s population and demographic challenges.

The session was widely covered by the media and attended by some 250 media industry professionals, including editors and journalists, and invited guests, at the SPH Media Auditorium at News Centre in Toa Payoh North.

18 March 2024 - Singapore Press Club Embassy Night kicks off its 2024 series with the first embassy-media roundtable and cocktail night hosted by the European Union Delegation to Singapore (EU).

This event is convened by the Singapore Press Club (SPC) with the aim to bring together journalists and communicators in Singapore with diplomats and senior officials from the host embassy. Modelled after The National Press Club (DC) in Washington Embassy Nights series, President Emily Wilkins sent a message to wish "Singapore Press Club success in its inaugural Embassy Night with the EU and every other event thereafter." SPC thanks Emily and the NPC(DC) for sharing and support.

Held at the EU Residence, the invited attendees from Singapore Press Club enjoyed the networking and fireside chat and Q&A from attendees with Ambassdaor Iwona Piórko, moderated by Derek Wallbank, Managing Editor at Bloomberg News and Management Committee member of Singapore Press Club.

Our Club President, Patrick Daniel and management committee are greatful to our host for their support for a successful and engaging event and we look forward to the next few line ups in the year with other Embassies in Singapore interested to host. Plans will be updated on Singapore Press Club website https://pressclub.org.sg/
