Today, 9 April 2026, Society Against Family Violence (SAFV) celebrates ๐ฅณ35 years of our founding. From our landmark 1997 research on service adequacy to our 2010 collaboration with NUS Lawโthe first extensive look at violence against women in Singaporeโwe have always been a "clearing house" for change๐ช.
In the final part of ๐ฉ๐ผ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ ๐จ๐ป๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป, we address the need for systemic change. Survivors share their strength, but they also highlight the gaps in how law enforcement and the public view violence. No survivor should ever feel looked down upon or weakened by inappropriate questioning.
As we look to the future, we remain committed to:
๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต: Informing policy with on-the-ground perspectives.
โ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ: We work with agencies that serve both survivors and perpetrators to break the cycle of violence through a systemic lens.
๐ข๐๐ฑ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐: Ensuring the public sees the strength, not the "weakness," of those who speak out.
The scope of family violence is large, but our resolve is larger. Here is to 35 years of innovation ๐ฅ, and to a future where every Singaporean family ๐ชis safe.
