Sometimes healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken,
or offering advice that never lands. It’s about presence —
a hand that doesn’t push, a gaze that doesn’t judge,
a quiet that says, I am here, and you are not alone.

Sign up for our pro bono Psychological First Aid workshop today and learn how to be the presence that heals :)

World Mental Health Day 2025: Access to Services — Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies

The 2025 World Mental Health Day theme reminds us that catastrophes are not only found in wars or natural disasters. Sometimes, they occur quietly within school walls, where bullying becomes a hidden “psychological disaster” that deeply affects young hearts and minds.

Bullying is more than conflict — it reflects a cycle of power imbalance and helplessness. When aggressors dominate and bystanders remain silent, victims begin to internalize the belief that nothing they do can change the outcome. This sense of helplessness erodes self-worth and leaves lasting emotional scars.

Because of this, schools are not only places of learning — they are also critical spaces for healing. Effective prevention goes beyond stopping visible acts of aggression; it also means recognizing subtle forms of harm such as public humiliation or persistent psychological pressure. True anti-bullying efforts create environments of empathy, fairness, and psychological safety, where every student feels seen and supported.

Through such care, schools can nurture resilience — the quiet strength to recover, adapt, and grow from adversity. Resilience does not mean avoiding pain; it means transforming pain into purpose. When survivors find meaning in their experiences and use their voices to uplift others, trauma becomes a source of strength.

As Nelson Mandela said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” Each act of kindness, each moment of courage, brings us closer to healing.

In every adversity lies the courage to heal.

"Feel It, Don't Blame It" is an emotional regulation concept where you accept an emotion as neutral information about your internal state—instead of a moral flaw or a reason to attack others—thereby shifting your focus from external blame to personal accountability for healthier and more effective communication. For example,

Expressing Sadness

When a loved one becomes emotionally distant:

"I feel sad when you withdraw, because I need open communication to maintain my sense of closeness and stability in our relationship."

Expressing Disappointment

When confidentiality is broken:

Instead of attacking the person for being a gossip or a liar, this statement centers on the violation of the speaker's trust:

"I feel disappointed when I hear that information I shared with you has been discussed with others, because I need to know that my confidence is respected to feel emotionally safe."

The practical aspect of this concept is the "I feel [emotion] when [behavior] because [need]" statement, with the intended outcome of fostering a non-accusatory exchange that reduces the listener's defensiveness and swiftly shifts the focus from fault-finding to collaborative problem-solving.
