✨ In Resonance: The Student Edition ✨

Every performer you see here stepped onto the stage with a unique story to tell.

Some were singing solo for the first time. Others tackled repertoire they never imagined themselves performing just months ago. Together, they brought to life music spanning centuries and styles, from Vivaldi and Bellini to musical theatre favourites and contemporary songs.

What made the evening special wasn’t just the music, but the courage, dedication, and growth behind every performance. Countless hours of practice, coaching, and preparation culminated in a celebration of young musicians finding their voices and sharing them with an audience.

A huge congratulations to all our performers, and heartfelt thanks to our wonderful audience, mentors, and collaborative pianist Matthew Mak for making the evening possible.

Here’s to continuing the journey, one note at a time. 🎶

“Has there been a better-named vocal consort in Singapore than Resonance of Singapore (ROS) Singers?

Its latest offering, mixing well-known with the new, was another step in the right direction.

Toh’s creations are sophisticated, challenging to sing yet gratifyingly harmonious.

… rising voices, as if lifted on the wings of angels, generated the evening’s most thrilling and radiant moment.

Very significant was the world premiere of bass-baritone John Lee’s Night Journeys, based on three poems by Singaporean poet Aaron Lee.

Moe’uhane, a Hawaiian word meaning “soul sleep”, was also the most comforting, its warmth derived from the trust and faith that one places in higher powers when crossing oceans.“

Thank you dear Dr Chang and for such a lovely and thoughtful review! Celebrating the wonderful music of and poetry of Aaron Lee 🙌🏼

People often say “Singapore? What arts scene?” - and to be fair, we’re such a practical, utility-focussed nation that the arts aren’t front of mind for most. No surprise that much of our choral music comes from overseas. But incredible original work is being created right here at home, by Singaporean artists telling Singaporean stories.

This is a glimpse into The Lamb by composer and ROS singer John Lee, captured during a recording session with The ROS Singers. We hope you enjoy it, and support your local artists ❤️

What happens when poetry becomes music? 📖🎶

For Singaporean poet Aaron Lee, words often begin as reflections on memory, belonging, and the quiet moments that shape who we are.

In Our Memories, Our Songs, his poetry takes on a new life through Night Journeys, a brand new choral work by composer John Lee, premiered for the first time in this concert.

In this carousel, Aaron shares his thoughts on poetry, meaning, and what it feels like to hear his words transformed into song.

What happens when poetry becomes music? 🎼📖

For composer and ROS singer John Lee, Night Journeys began with an afternoon spent reading the poetry of Aaron Lee, and hearing musical ideas emerge from the page.

Premiered for the first time at Our Memories, Our Songs, this brand new choral work explores themes of home, beauty, nature, and the journeys that shape us.

In this carousel, John shares the inspiration behind the piece, the challenges of composing, and what audiences can listen out for in the music.

And just like that, our first Taiwan tour comes to a beautiful close.
What an extraordinary week it has been — three concerts across Taichung and Taipei, two workshops (one with the Taiwan Choral Association and another with a wonderful group of conductors), and a major milestone for us: recording new music written especially for ROS by Ban Sheng, Ambrož Čopi, and John Lee, together with a renowned Taiwanese recording engineer.

None of this would have been possible without the people who journeyed with us.
To our amazing Taiwanese hosts and guides, thank you for your generosity, warmth, and care.
And to our dear Tzuyi — thank you for being such a steady, thoughtful, and joyful presence throughout the tour.

We are also deeply grateful to our patrons, supporters, and donors, whose belief in our mission made this tour and recording project possible. Thank you for investing in our music and our growth.

We are returning home with full hearts — grateful for the music shared, the connections made, and the privilege of learning from Taiwan’s vibrant musical community.
