WHO Hand Hygiene Day 2026 Celebration in India

To mark the WHO Hand Hygiene Day observed globally every year on May 5, Artemis Hospitals organized a community outreach program in Gurugram, India, promoting hand hygiene awareness among school students.

The event was held at Lotus Valley International School and Akash Public School, where students participated in choir performances, educational sessions, interactive hand hygiene demonstrations, and creative performances highlighting the importance of infection prevention.

Dr. Namita Jaggi emphasized that proper hand hygiene — through handwashing or alcohol-based hand rubs — remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent infections and was a cornerstone of prevention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic response from students and schools, similar outreach activities are planned across additional schools and colleges in India to further strengthen hand hygiene awareness in the community.

The Asia Pacific Hand Hygiene Excellence Award 2026 Accreditation Site Visit

In March 2026, senior hospital executives, key institutional leaders, and Prof. Dr. Anucha Apisarnthanarak, Chair of the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Committee at Thammasat University Hospital, Thailand, welcomed the surveyors for the Asia Pacific Hand Hygiene Excellence Award 2026 Accreditation Site Visit, reflecting the hospital’s strong commitment to promoting a culture of hand hygiene and patient safety in line with international standards.

The visit was led by Prof. Didier Pittet, Former Professor of Medicine, University of Geneva, and Lead Adviser to the WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge, together with Prof. Dr. Sasheela Sri La Sri Ponnampalavanar, Professor of Medicine at the University of Malaya and Head of the Infection Control Department at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

This accreditation site visit marks another important milestone for Thammasat University Hospital in strengthening healthcare quality and patient safety, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to excellence in infection prevention and control.
