The Red Collective 红瑞善食社 Tackling twin challenge of Food Insecurity & Food Waste.

The Red Collective (TRC), established in 2022, tackles the twin challenges of food insecurity and food waste in Singapore. Despite national progress, 10.4% of households lack access to sufficient, nutritious food, while food waste burdens the environment with greenhouse gas emissions. TRC bridges this gap by collecting surplus food and delivering it to those in need, currently serving 18,000 benef

iciaries monthly. Our founders' expertise in both food insecurity and food waste reduction, coupled with strong partnerships and our dedicated 15-footer truck, affectionately named "Trevor", ensures efficient solutions and measurable impact. By tackling food waste and hunger simultaneously, TRC strives to create a more equitable and sustainable food system for Singapore.

**Why the color Red?*
Red is the color of our blood. Therefore, regardless of creed, race, nationality etc, we aspire to make an impact on our beneficiaries.

红色,代表血液的颜色,也代表大家红彤彤的心。我们不分宗教、种族、信仰或国籍,有福同享,有饭同吃。我们希望尽一己之力, 把食物送给最需要的人.

**Who do we work with?
1. Vendors with excess food items eg fresh vegetables and fruits, bread, package food, and beverages.
2. Vendors/organizations with expired or close to expiry food items such as canned food, rice, noodles, drinks etc.

**And the food collected/donated goes to ... .Our growing group of beneficiaries which spans low-income communities, migrant workers, nursing homes, soup kitchens, and food waste reduction communities.

**Why should you work with The Red Collective? Our wide and varied network of beneficiaries puts us in a prime position to divert the right food(donated/excess and/or expired) to the right audience. We treat every donation or expired food diversion with the necessary acknowledgment and/or discretion, according to the wishes of vendor(s).

𝐍𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐨𝐬, 𝐧𝐨 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 — 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. ❤️🚚

When the newly released 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈𝐈 came out, we were glad to share our ground-up data for the study. But statistics only tell half the story. On the ground, food security isn't about corporate terminology—it looks like a few neighbors at a void deck sorting fresh vegetables. 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️

At The Red Collective (TRC), we are privileged to supply independent, informal groups across Singapore, like the ones at 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝 and 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝.🏠

These are not our teams. They don't have budgets, titles, or even names for their groups.

But in old Chinese communities, they would be called 地头蛇 (local ground snakes)—meaning those who possess deep local intelligence. 🔍 They know every block, every staircase, and exactly who is struggling quietly behind a closed door.

What makes them so humbling is that some of these volunteers are beneficiaries themselves. It is completely "for residents, by residents." This is where the 𝐃𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞 actually happens. We move the surplus produce 🥦 to keep it out of landfills, but these independent anchors turn that food into a conversation opener. The fresh veggies🍎, bread and rice are just the catalyst; the real magic is the trust and dignity they build within their own rental blocks.

Our data in the report reflects this reality, but the heart 🧡 belongs entirely to them. TRC handles the donors and logistics, but these unsung heroes open the doors and hearts that formal organizations at times cannot reach.🏠

Thank you to the beautiful communities at Haig Road, Balam Road, and beyond. Thank you for letting us be part of your world. 🌍🤝

We don’t do this alone—because food cannot walk! 🚚🍎

The newly launched 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈𝐈 highlights that a food-secure Singapore relies on a tightly woven network of partners — a reality directly reflected in the ground-up data we shared when interviewed for this study. As an intermediary in this ecosystem, The Red Collective 红瑞善食社 is proud to work hand-in-hand with dedicated partners like @ to ensure rescued food reaches the tables of families who need it most.

𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦 works tirelessly to “foster a culture of giving by connecting communities to address food insecurity, reduce waste, and support vulnerable families—one act of kindness at a time.” They take our rescued fresh fruits🍊 and vegetables 🥦and pack them straight into essential care boxes for local households.

It beautifully mirrors another key insight from the report: food is a powerful conversation opener. Dropping off these fresh boxes creates an organic open door for the Smiles Salam team to build deep trust, break down social isolation, and check on the well-being of residents. 🙌

This collaboration is living proof that environmental sustainability and social equity can walk hand-in-hand. 🤝Ultimately, our partners are the true "last-mile" heroes—the community connectors with the localized knowledge and heart to open doors and hearts.

Thank you, 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦, for walking this journey with us! 🌍❤️.

𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐱

It’s easy to assume food rescue is just logistics: we collect, we store, we distribute. But the most impactful part happens quietly, far from any spotlight.

In this photo, you’re seeing a routine act of service that captures the spirit of our entire volunteer community. Every week, this volunteer—like so many others in our team—collects and distributes surplus bread with zero expectation of praise. The real story, however, isn't that the bread was given; it’s the heart behind it.

Look closely at the presentation. The bread isn't just tossed into a bag; it is carefully arranged and inviting. This extra effort is a beautiful reflection of the care our volunteers strive to bring to every interaction. For the migrant workers gathering to receive it, this food is more than sustenance—it is a recognition of their dignity and worth.

This is the heart

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Monday can be heavy, and the global news often feels even heavier. But today, I witnessed something that reminded me how much light we can create in our own corner of the world.

There is a beautiful Chinese proverb about the three pillars of success: Heaven’s timing, the right place, and the right people (天时地利人和). This afternoon, those pillars stood tall.

It began with a simple, quiet gesture: a donor reached out to provide fresh vegetarian meals for low-income beneficiaries. As the "matchmaker" in this equation, I put the call out. One community responded.

The food was distributed with no fanfare, no hesitation —just a community in perfect sync. The photos coming back of the beneficiaries' smiles tell a story that words can't quite capture.

Being a facilitator for these moments is a humbling reminder that while we may not be able to fix the world’s grander misalignments, we can certainly align our intentions to serve those among us.

A massive thank you to our donor for the generosity, and to our ground-up volunteers for giving the one thing you can never get back: your time. You are, quite literally, the heartbeat of this community. ❤️

What could have gone to waste became something powerful.

We rescued and redistributed premium Italian coffee beans across Singapore – bringing a boost of energy, warmth, and a much-needed lift to families, individuals, and beneficiaries of non-profit organisations.

Big thanks to our generous donor – this wouldn’t have been possible without you. And to our partners The Food Bank Singapore and Summit Rescues for making it happen on the ground.

Sometimes, it's the simplest treats that bring the biggest smiles. 🍦✨

Who says you need a special occasion for ice cream? We spent the day spreading some frozen joy to families, children, and migrant workers across our community! Seeing the pure excitement as everyone grabbed their icy treat was truly the cherry on top of our week. 🍒

This sweet mission was made possible by the incredible generosity of our donors, expertly facilitated by the legends at The Food Bank Singapore, alongside our amazing partners at Summit Rescues.

In a world that can sometimes feel a bit heavy, we’re firm believers that a little sugar (and a lot of community spirit) goes a long way.

Check out the highlights from our "coolest" day yet!
