We just wrapped our Humanist Cafe on leaving religion and the journey of deconstruction. Attendees shared their personal experiences of stepping away from organized religion. We explored the struggles and challenges that come with leaving faith-based beliefs.
Throughout it all, participants were incredibly graceful and open. Our discussion touched on existential crises, nihilism, and how to build our own morality and ethical frameworks. We also reflected on what religion has to offer—its useful contributions to society, and the timeless themes, stories, mythologies, and allegories that have inspired humanity. These were early attempts to make sense of the world and shape moral understanding.
As we grow and question these ideas, we can upgrade our outlook while still appreciating religion’s gifts. It was a deeply meaningful session filled with honest stories and shared hardships. Have you walked a similar path?
