Our vision is a world where every child and youth grow up with a belief in the future Project Playground creates hope for the future. Create Belief.

It makes a lasting, positive impact on children’s lives and reduces the risk of vulnerability and social exclusion. By offering meaningful leisure activities, the organization empowers children and young people in both Sweden and South Africa. With a holistic approach, combining education, structured activities led by qualified leaders, and tailored support, Project Playground provides a safe haven and new perspectives for children and young people who need it most. Project Playground was founded in 2010 by H.R.H. Princess Sofia and Frida Vesterberg with the aim of improving life opportunities for children and young people in vulnerable communities. The organization began its operations in the township of Langa, just outside Cape Town, South Africa, where it offered a safe environment away from the streets, providing children with opportunities to develop through play, sports, and educational programs. Since then, Project Playground has expanded to Sweden, establishing a presence in Hallonbergen and soon Skärholmen outside Stockholm.

For Project Playground, prevention starts early. It means creating safe spaces, meaningful activities and supportive relationships that give children and young people a sense of belonging, hope for the future and opportunities.

As Social Impact Partner at Skydd - Nordens största säkerhetsmässa 2026, we’re proud to bring this perspective into the conversation about safety, security and long-term societal development. We also hope to inspire more companies to join forces with civil society and contribute to meaningful, long-term change.

On 22 October, we’ll take the stage together with Rissa Seidou, Police Officer in Järva, Magdalena Wahlqvist, Chair of the Board of AP3, and other voices from across society for a conversation on the power of investing in the next generation.

How can we reach young people before exclusion, mental health challenges and crime take hold - and what becomes possible when companies, the public sector and civil society work together?�

As we get ready to launch the next round of our STEAM initiative, we’re looking back at how we concluded the last one - with the student exhibition “The World We Build” 🌍🎨

Throughout the school year, students in years 6-9 at Vittra Brotorp explored how creativity, technology and sustainability can come together to shape the world around us.

Through workshops, visits and experiences together with Saab , SEB , Wallenstam AB and Tekniska museet, the students explored everything from art and economy to innovation, technology and the cities of the future. These experiences inspired their final artworks, created entirely from reused materials and reflecting issues close to them, including sustainability, community and our shared responsibility for the future.

The exhibition became a celebration of the students’ ideas, creativity and perspectives - and a reminder of what can happen when young people are given the space and tools to explore, create and think about the future in new ways.

A warm thank you to the students and teachers at Vittra Brotorp, and to Saab, SEB, Wallenstam and Tekniska museet, who made this journey possible.

Now, we’re looking forward to the next round of STEAM - with new students, new experiences and new ideas about the world we can build together.💚🧩

How can investing in the next generation help build a safer and more sustainable society - and what becomes possible when different parts of society join forces? 🧩

On 20-22 October 2026 Project Playground returns to Skydd - Nordens största säkerhetsmässa as a Social Impact Partner, bringing a social perspective to conversations about safety, security and long-term societal development.

Alongside being available to connect in SKYDD’s project space throughout the Expo, we’ll also take the stage on 22 October, bringing together different perspectives for a conversation on the power of investing in the next generation.

Joining the conversation are Clarisse Jaures, Police Officer in Järva, Magdalena Wahlqvist, Chair of the Board of AP3, representatives from Project Playground and other voices from across society. From reaching young people before exclusion, mental health challenges and crime take hold, to exploring the role of business, civil society, the public sector and long-term capital - we’ll discuss what early prevention can look like in practice and what becomes possible through collaboration.

A safer and more sustainable society cannot be built by one actor alone. It is built together.

We look forward to continuing the conversation at SKYDD!

💛 Programansvarig - Unga Ledare i Skärholmen
En roll för dig som vill utbilda, stötta och utveckla nästa generation unga ledare i Skärholmen. Du planerar och genomför ledarutbildningen, handleder deltagarna och samverkar med lokala föreningar och andra aktörer.

Båda rollerna är en del av Skärholmen Tillsammans, där Project Playground tillsammans med lokala aktörer arbetar för att stärka barn och ungas möjligheter och skapa en mer meningsfull fritid.

Looking ahead with purpose💛

Earlier this summer, our co-founder and honorary board member HRH Princess Sofia, honorary board member HRH Prince Carl Philip, and representatives from across Project Playground came together for Project Playground Sweden’s Annual Meeting and the Project Playground Foundation Board Meeting. 
The meetings provided an opportunity to review our progress, discuss strategic priorities, and reaffirm our shared commitment to creating safe spaces and opportunities for children and young people as we continue to strengthen our impact.

A school year with Skärholmen Tillsammans💚

This school year, Project Playground Sweden has coordinated Skärholmen Tillsammans, a joint initiative led by us, with support from Gålöstiftelsen, in close collaboration with Skärholmens stadsdelsförvaltning and a strong and amazing network of local associations.

Together, we have created opportunities for children and young people across Skärholmen through after-school activities at every municipal primary school in the district, as well as Winter Camp, Spring Camp and a range of other activities. The demand has remained strong throughout the year, highlighting the need for accessible and structured free-time opportunities for children and young people in the area.

The past year has brought a wide range of activities, new experiences and new connections. Children and young people have had the chance to try different sports and activities, meet local organisations and spend time in safe and welcoming environments close to home.

The last few weeks have been a good way to round off the school year. We have met with the collaborating organisations to reflect on the year, share insights and start planning for Summer Camp in July and the upcoming autumn term.

At its core, Skärholmen Tillsammans is about working together to make it easier for children and young people to take part in meaningful activities and become part of community life.

As the school year comes to an end, we want to thank Skärholmens stadsdelsförvaltning, Gålöstiftelsen and all the associations and partners who have contributed throughout the year.

We’re proud to introduce Playground Talks, a new initiative by Project Playground created to bring young voices into direct dialogue with people whose life experiences can inspire, challenge and broaden perspectives.

The aim is simple, but important: to create a space where young people can ask questions, share reflections, and explore real-life perspectives in an open and respectful setting guided by conversation rather than presentation.

The first Playground Talks session took place in Hallonbergen, where young participants gathered with Project Playground staff for an afternoon of dialogue and reflection. Our first guest was police officer Clarisse Jaures, who shared insights from her personal journey and professional experience, with a focus on her work related to youth, safety and community.

The conversation moved between personal questions and broader societal themes such as belonging, identity, pressure, trust and group dynamics, exploring how situations can shift depending on environment and the people around you. Through guided discussions and real-life scenarios, the group reflected on the influence of peers, the complexity of everyday choices, and how challenging, yet important, it can be to stand by your own values.

This is just the beginning of Playground Talks. A space for exchange and reflection, where young people are not only part of the conversation, but can also draw on these perspectives in their everyday lives and in their roles as Project Playground youth ambassadors, supporting and interacting with younger participants.
