Strejkarna” skildrar just denna mekanism: klimatpolitiken blir inte bättre, tvärtom, och från höger reser sig en massiv vägg av hat mot unga aktivister. De tappar hoppet, bränner ut sig, blir vilsna och bittra. Greta Thunberg – i dag 23 år – gråter stilla, hon säger att hon accepterat att hon nog inte kommer att bli så gammal."

’Strejkarna’ is the previously untold story of the collective that started the youth-led climate movement – ​​Fridays for Future.

When a small group of teenagers sit outside the Swedish parliament with handwritten placards demanding climate action, they ignite what will become one of the largest youth movements of modern times. Over seven years of filming, the documentary follows Greta, Isabelle, Sophia, Andreas, Anton, Ell, Simon and several others as they grow up with demonstrations, negotiations and political storms.

This is a showing of the documentary with English subtitles. It is followed by a discussion with some of the activists portrayed in the film and the researcher Brian Palmer. Brian Palmer is a social anthropologist and scholar of religion at Uppsala University. Previously he held a guest professorship at Gothenburg University, and before that he taught at Harvard. His courses there on civic courage and engagement attracted as many as 600 students per term, and Brian was awarded the Levenson Prize as Harvard’s best teacher. In 2022, he received Uppsala University’s Pedagogical Prize. Brian was a host (sommarpratare) on the radio program Sommar i P1.
