Dear Vingroup / Green SM Management,
My name is Nasar Khan and I am the chairman of Taxiunionen, an interest organisation representing approximately 2,300 taxi drivers and operators in Sweden, including many drivers working through app-based platforms.
We are contacting you because Green SMs planned entry into the Swedish taxi market has created both interest and concern among our members. Sweden already has painful experience with platform companies such as Uber and Bolt, where many drivers and small operators feel that high commissions, weak transparency and constant pressure on earnings have undermined their ability to run sustainable businesses.
We are especially concerned by the information that Julius Laurell, formerly associated with Bolt in Sweden, has been given a leading role in Green SM Sweden. Among many drivers and operators, Bolt is associated with a business model where drivers’ and operators’ welfare was not treated with the seriousness it deserves. This has raised legitimate questions about whether Green SM intends to bring a genuinely better model to Sweden, or whether it will become another Uber/Bolt-style platform under a green brand.
Taxiunionen has worked for a long time to convince Swedish decision-makers to regulate the market more clearly: fair pricing, transparency, reasonable commissions, proper working conditions, and a taxi market where serious drivers and operators can survive.
We are not against innovation, electric vehicles or new companies entering the Swedish market. On the contrary, we welcome serious actors who respect drivers, operators, customers and Swedish market conditions. But if Green SM intends to operate as another platform that shifts risk onto drivers while extracting high fees, Taxiunionen will continue to raise this issue publicly and politically.
We would therefore appreciate a clear answer from Vingroup / Green SM on the following points:
1. What commission or fee model does Green SM plan to apply in Sweden?
2. Will Swedish drivers be employees, franchisees, subcontractors or independent operators?
3. What guarantees will drivers and operators have regarding income, transparency and deactivation decisions?
4. How will Green SM ensure that its Swedish operation does not repeat the problems drivers have experienced with Uber and Bolt?
5. Is Green SM willing to meet Taxiunionen before launch to discuss fair conditions for drivers and operators?
We hope Green SM will choose dialogue rather than confrontation. The Swedish taxi industry needs serious competition, but not another platform model that weakens drivers and small operators.
Kind regards,
Nasar Khan
Chairman, Taxiunionen
