EcoFeminism

EcoFeminism The big idea
We want to explore how women can lead and create change for a better and more sustainable society and world. Every action counts. You decide.

We see EcoFeminism as a platform for facilitating and co-creating a paradigm shift for creating a more sustainable society and resilient climate-smart future with respect for all beings and nature. We want to offer a co-creational safe space where we explore ideas and actions that might be considered as controversial today but mainstream tomorrow. We want to both create and affect change on the la

rger system level and the local level as well as smaller “micro” changes on the personal, private level. What does ecofeminism mean to us/our approach to ecofeminism

Ecofeminism is a feminist approach to gender inequality, human rights and the rights of nature/ ecology. Ecofeminism sees a direct connection between patriarchy, hierarchy, the abuse of power and the oppression of nature, women, and marginalized groups. We see Ecofeminism as a platform for facilitating a paradigm shift in both our personal connection to how we live, what we value and our connection to others. It is a means to creating a more sustainable society and resilient climate-smart future with respect for all beings, animals and nature. Isolation and disconnect from our selves and others keeps us from ...

Vad är ecofeminism för oss? Ekofeminism är ett feministiskt förhållningssätt för att skapa ett mer hållbart samhälle och en klimatsmart framtid med respekt för alla människor, djur och natur på planeten. What do we expect from you? You can go all in, follow the happenings and events from the sideline, or cheer people on- we are all needed! Even the smallest bit of engagement is worthwhile and meaningful. You can join to be part of discussions, drive discussions, be a creative force, turn ideas/ visions into action or satisfy your curiosity of what is possible. We are in need of all kinds of different women because it brings greater perspective and possibility. It is our diversity and inter-connection that creates magic. ( sustainable change)

-Treat each other with respect
-meet our differences with compassion
-listen with our whole heart

Our Vision: The form to make this happen

We arrange physical meetups a few times a year in an unconference forum or open space. An unconference is basically a conference without predefined topics. The high level structure and theme of our meetings is ecofeminism and the climate, but actual topics are generated by the participants on the spot, and breakout groups are formed dynamically based on interest and relevance - World Café style. The Facebook-group EcoFeminism Sweden is our everyday forum. This is where we can continue to develop the ideas, in the groups formed at our meetings, and turn them into action. Why do we think a feminist approach is important to solve the climate crisis and restore this planet?

“Climate change is not gender neutral. Women and girls are more vulnerable to its impacts. Equity is good for everyone. Enhancing the rights and well-being of women and girls could improve the future of life on this planet.” Drawdown

Who are the people behind EcoFeminism Sweden? Cissi Lindén- Founder of GoClimateNeutral, speaker and climate aktivist. GoClimateNeutral is an initiative with the sole mission to stop climate change. This text by Dr Shefali Tsabury spoke so loudly to me, inspired me. It is long but please read to the end- it is beautiful and poignant!

I dedicate this text to my Sovereignty. "There comes a time in the life of a woman when she discards her old ways like tossed shoes in the garbage. When she shreds her list of 'shoulds' and obligations, and when impossible expectations are burned in an incinerator.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when the approval of others, once jewels, now turn to pennies in her sock.
When the hunt for another is now replaced by a hunt for herself
And when parental tentacles of tradition no longer define her children.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when her desire to fit in with the crowd dissolves, when her manic compulsion to be perfect vaporizes, when her obsessions of being voted popular eviscerates.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when she simply says- no more.
When facade, artifice and guile leave her nauseated, and when righteousness, dogma, and superiority repulse her.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when she no longer fears conflict, but faces it boldly like a lioness, when she guards her authenticity as fearlessly as she guides her babies.
And when she drops the role of savior, knowing she can only save herself.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when she no longer cowers in the shadows of her unworthiness. When she no longer plays small so others can feel big. When she swaps the role of victim for the role of co-creator.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when she unabashedly and boldly occupies her ultimate sovereignty. When she finally feels ready to claim her space in the world. When she redefines compassion as unequivocal self love.
There comes a time in the life of a woman when she finally releases her childlike dependency on others. When she dares to rewrite a new mandate of living for herself. One that says, I release unworthiness and fear. I divorce servility and passivity. I divest inauthenticity and enmeshment.
I end the pretense of being someone I am not, and from now on I declare I will ascend into my highest power
I will embrace my great autonomy.
I will celebrate my deepest worth.
I will embody my fiercest courage, and manifest the most authentic me
That time is now- I'm ready to awaken into my Renaissance

From ecoartspace
This month we recognize Leslie Labowitz Starus and her decades-long practice exploring the intersections of ecofeminism, art, and community engagement through her 40+ years project Sproutime, integrating personal history, ecological sustainability, and feminist activism.
"Labowitz Starus'art/life practice and eco-feminist project SPROUTIME (1980 -2024) has spanned four decades. Integrating personal and global survival into performances and installations, she started Sproutime by growing organic sprouts and greens, creating a micro-urban farm in her yard in Venice, California. This was followed by a series of ecologically motivated performances and installations produced in galleries across the United States. As an outgrowth of these art installations, she started her business enterprise (also called Sproutime) in 1980, growing and distributing organic food throughout the US until 2011, and maintains her sprout stand in the Santa Monica Farmers Market as her ongoing legacy. The nurturing and healing aspects of SPROUTIME counteract Labowitz Starus’s experience growing up with intergenerational trauma as a child of a holocaust survivor."

May we all surrender to the wise, wild, hairy woman within ourselves
Who represents the full embrace of the holy mess,
Who doesn’t need to take up space because she’s made of it
while also embodying the quintessence of substance
She breaks bu****it like rustic bread
She dances cracks into every system of fear and facade
She knows pain is a cauldron slowly brewing us into new magic.
Her riches come from claiming the treasure trove of stories
within her wrinkles and showcasing her collection through her broad, abundant smile
Her heart is a warm home welcoming all of herself and all of you
She is the host to the gorgeously undone who knows tears water the flowers in the wild garden of the heart
She is the alchemist of all your old attempts at perfection
allowing the taste of unforced, authentic gold
She says to each scrawny and fragmented part of ourselves,
“Come, my dear, there is no virtue in staying hungry,
this world needs you whole
now let’s put some fat on your bones.”

"Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh.

There was a pause.

"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.

"No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do."

"That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend.

"What are you doing?" asked Pooh.

"Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either.

"But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh."

And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right."
A.A. Milne

Sending thoughts to those having a Difficult Day today and hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you.

"Something sacred is coming this way....

That is how my ancestors would have said it.

In the midst of all this turmoil and confusion, when we cannot clearly see the path before us, when we feel trapped in a situation we cannot control,

then I believe the wise elders of my holy heritage would climb to the high place of the heart,

draw the circle of reason and faith around them, and stand to sing their prayers into the open sky of the history to come.

They would not shrink into a corner afraid, but rise up to catch the first light of what was coming into being all around them.

We are living in a time of emergence.

We are the witnesses to a great renewal.

The world is full of the fear of birth and change, but that transformation will one day be our blessing.

Do not be afraid, but be believing.

Come to the place where the ancestors are already standing.

Come and see.

Something sacred is coming this way."

Khalil Gibran on Fear ❤️

It is said that before entering the sea
a river trembles with fear.

She looks back at the path she has traveled,
from the peaks of the mountains,
the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her,
she sees an ocean so vast,
that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.

Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk
of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear,
because that’s where the river will know
it’s not about disappearing into the ocean,
but of becoming the ocean.

“You’re walking the labyrinth of life. Yes, you’re meant to move forward, but almost never in a straight line. Yes, there’s an element of achievement, of beginning and ending, but those are minor compared to the element of being here now. In the moments you stop trying to conquer the labyrinth of life and simply inhabit it, you’ll realize it was designed to hold you safe as you explore what feels dangerous. You’ll see that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be, meandering along a crooked path that is meant to lead you not onward, but inward.”

A LESSON IN HAPPINESS...
A wise teacher once brought balloons to school, told her pupils to blow them up and write their name on one.

After the children tossed their balloons into the hall, the teacher moved through the hall mixing them all up.

The kids were given five minutes to find the balloon with their name on it, but though they searched frantically, no one found their own balloon.

Then the teacher told them to take the balloon closest to them and give it to the person whose name was on it. In less than two minutes, everyone was holding their own balloon.

The teacher said to the children, “These balloons are like happiness. We won't find it when we're only searching for our own. ..But if we care about someone else's happiness...it will ultimately help us find our own.” ❤️

I just returned from an 8-day silent meditation retreat, it was such a profound and meaningful gift to give myself and, by extension, the world. The first thing we did upon arrival was hand in our phones. I thought I'd miss it like crazy, but guess what? I didn't! Well, except for that moment I wanted to snap a pic of the directions to a nearby lake, and the text was too tiny to read.

Each day was a blend of 45 minutes of sitting meditation followed by 45 minutes of walking meditation, starting at 6 am with the gentle ringing of a bell, all the way through to our final meditation at 9:30 pm. The days were organized by the bell, which became symbolic to me of listening to my inner bell of knowing and following it.

It was such a beautiful opportunity to slow down, feel Mother Earth under my feet, and be serenaded by the chorus of spring birds and held by the trees, watching as their leaves burst out.

I truly listened to the stories I tell myself, observed the identity I often cling to, and tracked the patterns of my thoughts and feelings. I practiced offering myself forgiveness and compassion, which led me to a place of wholeness, to coming home to myself.

Now back at home, I feel filled with insights, rejuvenated, and in absolute awe of both the miracle and the messiness of life.

Nature establishes its own harmonic order. Knowing how to respect the natural order is to free yourself from the superordinate position of the ego.
"We must draw our standards from the natural world. We must honor with the humility of the wise the bounds of that natural world and the mystery which lies beyond them, admitting that there is something in the order of being which evidently exceeds all our competence." – Václav Havel
