The cholera outbreak in Sudan remains a serious humanitarian threat. Overcrowded displacement sites, poor sanitation, and limited access to safe water, made worse by the rainy season, are driving the crisis.

In response, World Vision Sudan is scaling up life-saving action:
•Started rehabilitation of water points in White Nile State – Um Rimta area
• Pre-positioning cholera treatment supplies across seven states
• Engaging 566 community health workers to promote hygiene, sanitation, and early reporting
• Establishing treatment centers and up to 50 oral rehydration points at primary health units

In Blue Nile, East and South Darfur, timely interventions helped contain the outbreak,65 suspected cases were managed, 11 confirmed, all treated patients recovered, and zero deaths recorded. Two cholera treatment centers and 11 oral rehydration points continue to provide critical care, contributing to South Darfur reaching a cholera-free status.

Despite these gains, funding and bureaucratic barriers continue to limit the scale and speed of the response.

The conflict in Sudan has pushed the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
🔹 Over 30 million people need humanitarian and protection assistance
🔹 21.1 million are facing acute food insecurity
🔹 Some areas are facing food insecurity
🔹 Nearly 4 million children under five are suffering from acute malnutrition

Behind these numbers are families fighting to survive every day. Urgent, sustained humanitarian access and support are critical to save lives especially for children.

In November, World Vision continued delivering life-saving assistance to children and families affected by the Sudan crisis. Across Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile, and other response areas, our teams provided food assistance, clean water, health and nutrition services and protection support to the most vulnerable.

Saving children from malnutrition in Blue Nile

With support from Aktion Deutschland Hilft (ADH), World Vision is helping displaced children in Blue Nile receive life-saving nutrition care.

Our mobile clinics in Damazine’s IDP camps are identifying and treating malnutrition early.

Children like little Samar, 11 months old, are receiving the supplementary foods they need to regain strength and stay healthy.

World Vision is also supporting families of severely malnourished children with cash assistance so they can access nutritious food.

So far, we’ve helped:
✅1,741 children recover from severe acute malnutrition
✅ 2,298 children recover from moderate acute malnutrition

A vital intervention protecting children’s lives during one of Sudan’s worst humanitarian crises.

Strengthening Food Security in Blue Nile 🌾

Years of conflict stopped many farmers from planting their fields. But through support from Germany's BMZ, World Vision is helping farmers in Bua locality produce improved sorghum seeds. A crop that feeds thousands of families.

Farmers received certified seeds and training on better farming techniques. World Vision will also buy their harvest to support 1,000 small-scale farmers next season.

One of the farmers, Jaka, says:
“I used the techniques I learned from World Vision, and the results are amazing.”

This project is rebuilding resilience, restoring livelihoods, and strengthening food security for communities affected by conflict.

962 days since the Sudan conflict erupted on 15 April 2023.

Nearly three years on, the suffering continues to deepen.

🔹Women and girls continue to face alarming levels of violence and exploitation.

🔹Children are out of school, many for more than two academic years.

🔹Malnutrition is rising sharply, with millions of children at risk of severe acute malnutrition.

🔹Families remain displaced, cut off from food, clean water, and health services.

🔹Humanitarian access continues to be restricted, leaving communities without the support they urgently need.

Sudan is on the brink of a worsening humanitarian catastrophe. We must continue to advocate for protection, access, and peace, and stand with the millions of vulnerable people especially women and children

Today and every day, let us stand with Sudan's children and protect their fundamental rights.
They have endured enough due to the ongoing conflict. We must join our efforts to ensure they have access:
✅Food
✅Water
✅ Education
✅Protection
Let us work together to give them the hope, dignity and opportunities for the future they deserve.

World Vision continues to stand with the people of Sudan. So far, our multi-sectoral response has reached over 556,000 people with life-saving support and resilience-building programmes.

In October, our teams made important strides across all operational areas, from providing clean water in displacement camps to ensuring children receive nutritious meals, protection services, and hope for a better future.

But the needs are growing every day. We remain committed to reaching the most vulnerable families and children caught up in this crisis.

🚨 Children’s lives hang in the balance.

The conflict in El Fasher has forced tens of thousands to flee, including over 5,000 children now seeking safety in East and South Darfur. Many are malnourished, dehydrated, and deeply traumatized.

World Vision Sudan teams are providing water, shelter materials, and psychosocial support, but the needs are overwhelming.

Every hour of delay costs lives.

🚨 Expanding our response to White Nile!

World Vision Sudan has officially received approval to begin operations in White Nile State, a critical step in reaching communities facing immense humanitarian challenges.

The state has become a center of complex fragilities, hosting a massive influx of internally displaced persons, returnees, and long-term refugees affected by the ongoing conflict.

Our presence here is vital to deliver immediate, life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable. We are mobilising quickly to scale up our relief efforts and stand ready to work hand in hand with our partners to bring hope and restore dignity to affected families.
