Job Title: Child Protection Officer

Contract Duration: 3 Months (with possibility of extension subject to funding and performance)

1. Background
Youth in Action Organization (YAO) is implementing a UNICEF-supported Child Protection programme in North and South Kordofan, focusing on emergency and longer-term child protection services. The programme includes victim assistance for mine/EO survivors, UASC case management, alternative family care, MHPSS interventions through Child Friendly Spaces (CFS), GBV prevention and response, and establishment of referral and accountability mechanisms (AAP/PSEA).
To support quality implementation at field level, YAO is recruiting a Child Protection Officer to oversee case management, coordination, capacity building, and service delivery in line with UNICEF and CP AoR standards.

2. Purpose of the Position
The Child Protection Officer will ensure effective implementation, coordination, and quality assurance of child protection activities, including UASC case management, FTR, alternative care arrangements, MHPSS services, EO survivor assistance, and referrals, in close collaboration with partners, government counterparts, and community structures.

3. Key Responsibilities
A. Programme Implementation
• Implement child protection activities in line with the approved workplan and budget, including:
- Case management for UASC and other at-risk children
- Support to alternative family care arrangements
Victim assistance for children’s survivors of mines/EO
- MHPSS services through Child Friendly Spaces (CFS)
• Ensure child protection interventions comply with CPMS, UNICEF guidelines, and IASC MHPSS Pyramid.
B. Case Management & Referrals
• Supervise and technically support case workers and supervisors.
• Ensure proper documentation of cases using IMS Primero.
• Facilitate referrals for health, legal, psychosocial, and GBV services.
• Conduct regular case conferences and follow-up meetings with key actors.
C. Capacity Building & Community Structures
• Support establishment and strengthening of:
- Community-Based Child Protection Networks (CBCPNs)
- Community awareness on EORE, child protection risks, GBV, and PSEA
• Facilitate and support trainings for:
- Case workers, social workers, supervisors
- CBCPN members and community mobilizers
D. Coordination & Representation
• Coordinate with:
- UNICEF
- State Council for Child Welfare (SCCW)
- Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC)
- GBV and Child Protection sub-sectors
• Participate in CP/GBV coordination meetings and share updates.
E. Monitoring, Reporting & Accountability
• Support monitoring visits and field follow-up.
• Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports.
• Contribute to donor reports with accurate data and narratives.
• Support establishment and functionality of:
- AAP and PSEA complaint and feedback mechanisms (CFM)
F. Safeguarding & Compliance
• Ensure adherence to Child Safeguarding, PSEA, Do No Harm, and Confidentiality principles.
• Report any safeguarding concerns according to YAO policies.

4. Required Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Development Studies, Human Rights, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in child protection programming, preferably in humanitarian settings.
• Proven experience in:
- UASC case management and FTR
- MHPSS and CFS programming
- Coordination with UN agencies and government authorities
• Strong knowledge of:
- CPMS, GBV guiding principles, IASC MHPSS guidelines
- IMS Primero (strong advantage)
• Experience working in Kordofan or conflict-affected areas is an asset.
