The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, condemns the reported drone strike near a displacement site in Wad Al Mahi, Blue Nile State, which has reportedly killed at least 31 civilians, mostly women and children.
Civilians must be protected, international humanitarian law respected, and those responsible for violations held accountable.

Across Sudan, ongoing conflict and displacement continue to threaten the health, safety and well-being of millions of women and girls, disrupting access to essential healthcare and protection services.
UNFPA and its partners are responding to these growing needs by providing life-saving sexual and reproductive health services and support for women and girls affected by gender-based violence.

Between January and August 2026:
- 543,266 people reached with sexual and reproductive health services.
- 673,000 people reached with gender-based violence prevention, risk mitigation and response services.
- 88 health facilities supported, including mobile clinics and primary healthcare centres.
101 women and girls’ safe spaces supported across Sudan.

From supporting safer childbirth to providing essential care and protection services for survivors of violence, these interventions are critical for women and girls affected by the crisis. Yet, the response remains severely underfunded. UNFPA faces a US$78 million funding gap, threatening its ability to sustain and expand life-saving services as humanitarian needs continue to grow.
Sustained funding is urgently needed to ensure that women and girls across Sudan can access the healthcare, protection and support they need.

At Al Dabbah Hospital in Sudan’s Northern State, limited equipment and inadequate facilities once made providing essential maternal health care a daily challenge. Today, a rehabilitated maternity ward, reliable solar power and new medical equipment are creating better conditions for delivering care. With support from and , UNFPA is strengthening maternal health services at Al Dabbah Hospital, enabling health workers to provide quality care and more women to access the services they need.

UNFPA-supported Gender-based Violence (GBV) mobile team is bringing critical protection and health services directly to women and girls in Gebrat Al Sheikh, Sheikan, Ar Rahad and Um Rawaba in North Kordofan, Sudan. Bringing together a psychologist, social worker, case manager, midwife and two community mobilizers, the team provides emergency GBV case management, referrals and other essential support.
Since August, 55 pregnant women have been referred to hospitals for safe delivery, 100 women and girls at risk of GBV have received emergency cash assistance. The response has also provided 700 dignity kits and 2,857 menstrual hygiene management kits, while GBV awareness activities have reached 610 people.
The mobile team is supported with funding from and , helping bring essential services closer to women and girls affected by the crisis.

In North Kordofan , insecurity, floods, high transportation costs and other barriers can prevent women from reaching health facilities.
With funding from , UNFPA and Plan International trained 36 humanitarian midwives in safe delivery and newborn resuscitation, bringing life-saving care closer to women and newborns across the state.

It is impossible to describe life in Tawila camp. Its population is larger than that of Washington, D.C., Oslo, and many other major cities around the world. Yet, for this vast population, there is only one maternity hospital where pregnant women experiencing complications can seek specialized care.
Fabrizia Falcione, UNFPA Representative in , visited Tawila displacement camp, including health and women’s protection services, and met with displaced women and girls.
