Due to the war in Sudan, our team members were forced to relocate to a rural area with limited access to electricity and clean water. They discovered that the lack of safe water and sanitation was causing an outbreak of diarrhoeal diseases in those areas. Unable to rely on authorities for resources, They decided to manufacture their own water filter using affordable materials that did not require electricity. After introducing the filter to a group of refugees, there was a significant decrease in diarrhoeal cases, . The water also appeared clear and transparent after filtration.
Encouraged by this success, we expanded the project to include more households in the village, teaching them how to make the filters themselves. This fostered community engagement and provided a permanent solution for a large number of people. Despite the challenges posed by limited resources, we believe that local alternatives can make a difference and hopes to inspire others to take action.
In conclusion, our goal in YOHI in the meantime is to raise awareness and find sustainable solutions for the challenges faced by displaced communities. Lack of access to clean water and sanitation is a major issue, and we promote local alternatives like affordable water filters. We believe individuals and communities can create positive change and advocate for policies prioritizing the health of displaced and refugees. Let's improve the well-being of displaced communities through awareness, local solutions, and policy changes.
