Recent Developments (October 25, 2024)

Some displacement camps in South Darfur, like the Al-Serif camp, have received quantities of humanitarian aid provided by United Nations agencies and international organizations. Yet, the arrival of relief remains few and insufficient to cover the needs of the displaced. Moreover, the Sheikh of the camp Zakaria Ibrahim Al-Dom stated there have been incidents of r**e and kidnapping suffered by girls in areas west of the camp by a group of shepherds.

The Sheikh of Al-Serif camp appealed to humanitarian organizations and United Nations agencies to save the displaced people of the camp from the humanitarian conditions they face, especially after the rainy season receded, and said in the previous period, "the conditions of the rainy season hindered the delivery of aid to the Darfur region, but now that the rains stop, the steps of organizations must accelerate to relief the displaced in the various camps, villages, and cities of Darfur".

Thousands of children are at risk after the MSF had to suspend work in Zamzam Camp due to ongoing conflict and obstruction of aid by warring forces. With blockades from both sides of the conflict, access to lifesaving aid is being cut off, putting these vulnerable lives in even greater danger. The humanitarian situation is dire, and we need the world to take action. Stand with Sudan and support our Campaign today.

On Friday, Oct. 4th, airstrikes in Al Kuma claimed the lives of 13 children and injured 17 others. U.N. Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric announced that thousands of children and their families have been trapped in regions of unrelenting violence and insecurity. Children who have no place in war continue to suffer as genocidal violence persists.

We appeal to you all, advocates, activists, and ordinary citizens, to speak up and not let the children of Sudan die in silence. Now more than ever, the children of Sudan need your voice. Contact your representatives and demand urgent action to stop the genocide in Sudan. Add your voice to our Stand With Sudan Campaign and use our letter to Congress!

DWAG wholeheartedly supports this decision, and we affirm the importance of continuing the FFM’s critical work in holding perpetrators accountable!

URGENT ACTION:
Urgent Call for Humanitarian Aid and Civilian Protection in Sudan

Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) and the undersigned Civil Society Leaders write to express our grave concern about the devastating crises in Sudan and the recent escalated violence in Darfur and to urge you to mobilize the member states during this UNGA session to take serious measures to address the crises and provide the desperately needed humanitarian aid to all in need.

Therefore, we urgently call upon you to adopt the following important recommendations:

1. Make Sudan a primary focus of the upcoming UNGA session, calling for urgent action to deliver humanitarian and protect civilians.

2. Deploy U.N.-led peacekeeping forces under Chapter VII to protect civilians in conflict zones, especially in Darfur, where violence and insecurity is rampant

3. Demand immediate, unconditional ceasefires from both the RSF and SAF, and call for an end to the attacks on civilians, humanitarian workers, and vital infrastructure, including hospitals and aid convoys.

4. Pressure Sudan authorities to open unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and shelter to those most in need, especially in areas under siege.

5. Impose immediate targeted sanctions with a travel ban on individuals obstructing humanitarian efforts or perpetuating violence.

6. Expand the existing arms embargo in Darfur to all of Sudan to stop the supply of weapons, ammunition, and other support to the warring parties and prevent the further escalation of violence.

7. Support the ICC to pursue accountability for past and present crimes committed in Darfur and Sudan
