Understanding Worship
At its core, worship is a response to God.
Whenever God reveals Himself—whether through His presence, His Word, or personal encounter—there is an automatic response from within us. This response, expressed in various forms, is what we call worship.
Worship is not limited to singing. It is a lifestyle expression that flows from the depths of our being. God has placed within humanity a capacity to respond to Him spontaneously, instantly, and deeply.
Man was created for worship.
The Three Dimensions of Worship
The depth and quality of worship are determined by three key dimensions:
1. The Degree of God’s Revelation
The level at which God manifests His presence determines the depth of our response. The greater the revelation, the deeper the worship.
2. The Depth of Relationship with God
Worship flows from intimacy. The closer our relationship with God, the more genuine and profound our worship becomes.
3. The Depth of the Knowledge of God
This is not merely intellectual knowledge, but experiential understanding. The more we know God personally, the richer our worship becomes.
These three dimensions—revelation, relationship, and knowledge—shape the intensity and authenticity of worship.
The Heart of David
The origin of the Tabernacle of David begins with a man—David.
David is described in Scripture as a man after God’s own heart. This was not because of perfection, but because of his relentless hunger for God.
Psalm 42:1 captures this longing:
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul longs for You, O God.”
David’s life was marked by:
•A deep desire for God’s presence
•A passion for intimacy with God
•A commitment to seek God above all else
This hunger became the foundation for a new expression of worship.
