The Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundations were established to formalize the philanthropy passion of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud, leading global business man and member of the Saudi royal family. It was renamed Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation The Foundation was officially recognized under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2009, and renamed to Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation. The Alwaleed Foundations consists of three philanthropic organizations dedicated to supporting humanitarian projects in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and around the world. The programs and projects supported by the Foundations are broadly categorized under four Focus Areas: Global Cultural Understanding, Community Development, Disaster Recovery and Women’s Empowerment. Beside the programs under these categories, the Foundations sometimes extend support to several Special Projects based on specific needs of communities. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundations are driven by the guiding principle of “Commitment Without Boundaries”. The Foundations strictly adhere to global best practices in governing the grant application and grant allocation processes (see Grants). While keen to support humanitarian causes and programs, the Foundations need to be selective about funding to maximize impact. Hence, the need to strategize resource allocation within the Foundations’ areas of expertise and work.
