Yesterday, as we continue the hashtag campaign, CARE Rwanda, in partnership with Duhamic through the , joined local leaders and residents of Gakenke District to inaugurate and showcase two modern pig slaughterhouses and a pig meat selling point—key components of the value chains supported by the project.

Located in Cyabingo Sector, these facilities have been fully upgraded with electricity, clean water, renovated buildings, and modern equipment including fridges, meat-cutting tools, and weighing scales.

During the event, we also shared messages aligned with the , reminding communities that while these investments aim to improve food system and nutrition, they cannot achieve their full impact if violence against women, girls and men persists in families.

Together, let’s build safe homes and thriving communities!

🌍 : 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞’𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲

Violence doesn’t always leave visible scars—it can silently destroy families. For Jeanette, abuse at home led to alcoholism as a coping mechanism. In her struggle, her youngest child fell into severe hashtag .

Through the , Jeanette received education on positive parenting; nutrition training, started a kitchen garden, and learned how to prepare balanced meals using locally available foods. She quit drinking, regained confidence, and transformed her family’s future. Today, her son is healthy, and her home is a place of care—not conflict.

Violence against women, girls and boys is not just physical—it affects mental health, parenting, and child well-being. Together, we can break these cycles.

🎉 Celebrating Achievements & Honoring Leadership at CARE Rwanda 🎉

Yesterday, CARE Rwanda staff came together for our End-of-Year Party—a moment to celebrate the milestones we’ve achieved in 2025 and to wish each other a successful year ahead.

This occasion was extra special as we bid farewell to our dearest leader, Hela Gharbi, who has completed five impactful years as our Country Director.

During this event, staff expressed heartfelt gratitude for her exceptional leadership and the spirit of collaboration that enabled CARE Rwanda to accomplish so much.

Hela shared how proud she is to have led CARE Rwanda over the past five years, highlighting the lessons learned and friendships built along the way. She assured us that Rwanda will always feel like home.

Today, CARE Rwanda’s Country Director, Hela Gharbi, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Agriculture & Animal Resources, where she met with Permanent Secretary Mr. Olivier KAMANA.

This visit marked an important moment to bid farewell as she concludes her mission in Rwanda and to express gratitude for the strong partnership we share. It was also an opportunity to reaffirm our joint commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture.

Through initiatives such as and , CARE Rwanda continues to work closely with partners to improve livelihoods and strengthen food security across the country through CARE's approaches including Village Saving and Loans Associations (VSLAs), Farmer Field Business Schools (FFBS), Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Analysis (CVCA) among others

We visited:
✅ A renovated vegetable selling point helping farmers earn more
✅ A model kitchen garden promoting better nutrition
✅ A poultry farmer empowering others to start chicken farming
✅ A community kitchen teaching families to prepare balanced meals

From Plans to Real Change!

Yesterday, on November 4, 2025, CARE Rwanda joined partners under the hashtag for our bi-annual Steering Committee meeting—a key moment to reflect on Year 2 achievements, address challenges, and chart the way forward.

But we didn’t just talk—we visited communities and experienced impact firsthand:
🌱 Rwili Vegetable Selling Point – built to give farmers a dignified space to sell produce, boosting incomes and reducing post-harvest losses.
🥬 Rukozo Model Kitchen Garden – teaching families to grow vegetables on small plots, fighting malnutrition one garden at a time.
🐔 Empowered Poultry Farmer – now a local champion, inspiring others to start poultry farming for eggs and income.
🍲 Home-Based Early Childhood Development Center – where neighbors provide daycare for children under five while learning nutrition and hygiene best practices, commonly known as "Igikoni cy'umudugudu"

Beyond celebrating progress, Project Steering Committee members are committed to:

✅ Work with communities to scale up household kitchen gardens, ensuring larger spaces and diverse vegetables for improved and balanced diets.
✅ Collaborate with the government to strengthen Food Basket Sites, a key strategy to sustainably increase crop productivity and achieve the national productivity targets set under PSTA 5.
✅ Engage other partners and stakeholders to address community priorities beyond the project scope—such as child daycare facilities at markets, bridges, and other infrastructure needs highlighted during visits.

Together with Duhamic, the European Union in Rwanda, and district leaders from Gakenke, Rulindo, and Gicumbi, we witnessed how partnerships transform lives.
