After the meeting, participants conducted a field visit in Butaro Sector to assess ongoing activities, including one storage facility for Irish potatoes and two maize drying facilities. The visit also featured a cornerstone-laying ceremony officially launching the irrigation works beside the Kamiranzovu marshland, at a site located just beneath Biyove Village. The irrigation system is expected to be completed within five months, with local community beneficiaries actively taking part in the field session.

A world free of chemical toxins is possible and necessary.

Women face disproportionate exposure to endocrine‑disrupting chemicals (EDCs) such as phthalates and bisphenols. These chemicals threaten health, fertility, and well‑being, and the risks are amplified by both biological and societal factors.

ARECO, in collaboration with IPEN, is calling for urgent action to protect women and communities worldwide. Together, we can demand safer alternatives, stronger regulations, and a healthier future.

International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2025 (19–25 October) comes to a close today under the theme “No Safe Level: Act Now to End Lead Exposure.”

Throughout the week, Rwanda joined the global community in raising awareness about the dangers of lead — a toxic metal that poses serious health risks, especially to children. There is no safe level of exposure, and ending the use of lead in paint is one of the most effective ways to prevent harm.

Across the country, partners from government, industry, and civil society worked together to promote lead-free paint, strengthen enforcement of the 90 ppm lead limit, and build public understanding of the importance of eliminating lead exposure.

As this special week concludes, ARECO reaffirms its commitment and contribution to protecting health, preserving the environment, and ensuring a safer, lead-free future for all.

As part of International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2025 (19–25 Oct), stakeholders from government, industry, civil society, and development partners gathered in Kigali under the theme “No Safe Level: Act Now to End Lead Exposure.”

The workshop, organized by ARECO-RWANDA NZIZA with partners including MoE, RSB, REMA, RICA, WHO, and LEEP, reviewed Rwanda’s progress in enforcing the 90 ppm lead limit and promoting lead-free paint production.

Participants agreed on key actions — from building capacity for paint producers to raising public awareness and strengthening coordination across institutions — to move toward a lead-free Rwanda.

Lead is a dangerous neurotoxin with no safe level of exposure, especially for children. Ending its use in paint protects health, the environment, and future generations.
