One of RHYIW’s priority areas is strengthening the capacity of nurses and midwives to provide quality maternal health care, particularly in antenatal and obstetric care.
This week, RHYIW team members participated in a workshop to update the pre-service HEC training curriculum, organized by the Rwanda Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Centre in collaboration with Sight & Life.
We are happy to contribute to this important initiative, which will help strengthen the skills and knowledge of future health professionals and ultimately improve the quality of maternal health care in Rwanda.

RHIYW partners with other civil society organizations (CSOs) to implement comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education and services for people with disabilities. Inclusion is one of our core principles, and we are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to accurate information and quality services. Today, at the Youth Centre, we held an engaging discussion on family planning (FP) with a group of people living with disabilities. The session provided an opportunity to share information, address misconceptions, answer questions, and promote informed choices about using modern contraceptives. Together, we continue to champion inclusive, equitable, and accessible SRHR for all.

As we conclude the implementation research pilot phase across 45 public health centers in four districts, we are participating in this week's stakeholder meeting, led by the Ministry of Health (MOH) & the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), to develop a scale-up plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the implementation of telemedicine for comprehensive abortion care (CAC) services.
We are proud to contribute to this important initiative, which has the potential to improve access to quality comprehensive abortion care, strengthen healthcare service delivery, and help reduce the incidence of unsafe abortion in Rwanda.

Improving women's health starts with strengthening the quality of care. This week, RHIYW is participating in the workshop to develop Antenatal Care (ANC) Training Guidelines, organized by RBC/MOH in collaboration with CHAI in Huye.
We are delighted to contribute to the development of this important resource, which will help strengthen the capacity of healthcare providers and improve the quality of antenatal care services for women across Rwanda. School holidays are a busy and exciting time at the Youth Center, as we welcome many adolescents seeking services and support. This photo was taken this Thursday the 9th July, capturing the energy and engagement at the center. We provide comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and mental health services in a youth-friendly environment.

To make the center welcoming and enjoyable, we use games, entertainment, and other interactive activities that attract and engage adolescents. While waiting for their consultation with our healthcare providers, young people can play games, connect with friends, access free internet, and use RHIYW computers.
We understand that not all adolescents have access to internet-enabled devices or reliable connectivity at home.

Our goal is to create an environment where every young person feels welcome, informed, and empowered to take charge of their health and well-being.

Today, we held a Teen Mothers Support Group at the Musanze Youth Center, providing a safe space for young mothers to connect, learn, and support one another. The session focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education, strengthening peer support, and promoting informed health decisions. Participants also accessed SRH services, including HIV testing, pregnancy testing, STI screening and treatment, gender-based violence (GBV) counseling and referrals, family planning counseling. Through interactive discussions, music, and dance, the session fostered learning, confidence, and well-being while improving access to essential SRH services.
We remain committed to ensuring that every teen mother has access to accurate information, quality SRH services, and the support needed to thrive.

Yesterday at MYC, RHIYW facilitated a mental health education session for youth. Alcohol and drug use can impair judgment, increasing the risk of unprotected s*x, unintended pregnancies, STIs, and s*xual violence. By strengthening mental self-awareness, and decision-making skills, we help young people make informed choices and reduce both substances use and s*xual and reproductive health risks.
