During the Family Week held on November 12, 2025, in Kamonyi District and across the Southern Province, the Executive Director of AFO warmly welcomed various leaders, including district officials, health experts, and representatives from the Youth Center where AFO operates.

In his opening remarks, he expressed sincere appreciation to all participants and provided an overview of AFO’s background and mission. He emphasized the organization’s core values of love, unity, and collaboration as key pillars in strengthening the Rwandan family.

He highlighted that Family Week serves as a reminder that the family is the foundation of life and sustainable development. A stable family contributes directly to national progress. He also extended gratitude to the Kamonyi District leadership for providing operational space at the Youth Center, noting that, with partners, AFO is committed to empowering vulnerable groups—especially girls and persons with disabilities—through vocational training and entrepreneurship development.

The Director further announced that AFO officially launched its activities in Kamonyi District, marking a significant milestone. The organization is focusing on supporting girls from disadvantaged families to access education, promoting gender equality and complementarity within households, preventing gender-based violence, and encouraging community participation in building safe and resilient families.

On the same day, AFO engaged with beneficiaries, including young girls affected by unintended pregnancies, offering guidance on family reintegration and responsible behavior.

The event concluded with a call to action for all participants to ensure that Family Week becomes a continuous movement rather than a one-time event. The goal is to build families that are sources of peace, love, and sustainable development, aligned with Rwanda’s National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) and Kamonyi District Development Strategy (DDS).

AFO reaffirmed its commitment to strong partnerships in addressing challenges facing Rwandan families and promoting lasting social impact.

On March 27, 2026, AFO conducted a field visit to follow up on the progress of its beneficiaries enrolled in vocational training, particularly in hairdressing. The visit revealed remarkable improvement, with participants demonstrating strong practical skills and confidence in their work. Many shared that they have already started offering services within their communities, reflecting both competence and initiative.

During the engagement, discussions focused on their future aspirations and personal development. Beneficiaries expressed a renewed sense of self-confidence and optimism, highlighting the positive impact of AFO’s continuous support through training, mentorship, and life skills education. They emphasized that the knowledge and guidance received have empowered them to make informed decisions and avoid negative influences.

On the same day, AFO officially launched community-based clubs aimed at creating safe spaces where youth can openly discuss challenges and access guidance. These clubs are designed to strengthen peer education and contribute to the prevention of unintended pregnancies among young people.

The visit concluded with practical demonstrations, where beneficiaries showcased their hairdressing skills by working on each other—clearly illustrating the high level of competence they have achieved.
