Surf Smart, Stay Safe: Online Protection for Youth
From 16 to 25 August 2026, young people from Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Türkiye, Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia and Italy came together in Bansko, Bulgaria, for the Erasmus+ project “Surf Smart, Stay Safe: Online Protection for Youth.”
Throughout the project, we explored the digital world and learned how to navigate it in a safer, smarter and more responsible way. We raised our awareness about common online threats such as phishing, malware, ransomware, social engineering, online fraud and data breaches, learning how these risks can affect our everyday lives.
We also focused on practical digital-safety skills, from protecting our personal data, privacy and digital identity to thinking more carefully about what we share and who we trust online. Through workshops, discussions, games and non-formal education activities, we developed our digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
Another important part of the project was exploring emerging technologies, especially AI. We discussed the opportunities these technologies create, but also the risks and responsibilities that come with using them. The project encouraged us to question information, make informed decisions and become more responsible digital citizens.
Beyond the topic itself, these 10 days were also about meeting people, sharing experiences and learning from different perspectives. Having participants from eight different countries gave us the opportunity to understand how young people from different backgrounds approach technology, online safety and everyday digital challenges.
As the project came to an end, we didn't just leave Bansko with new knowledge about cybersecurity. We left with new friendships, shared memories, stronger digital skills and a better understanding of how our actions online can impact ourselves and others.
The exchange may have ended, but the message continues: surf smart, stay safe and think before you click.
