🎀 LAS DAMAS DE RIZAL DOHA CHAPTER STANDS IN SOLIDARITY FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS🎀

Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter was honored to be invited at ‘Building Resilience: Breast Cancer Prevention, Treatment, and Care,”held on 08 October 2026 and organized by IAM Filipina in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar.

Representing our Chapter were Lady Sheila Marie Cantos, Chapter President, and Lady Veronica Yee Concepcion, PRO and Head of Media and Publications. Their attendance reflected our organization's continued commitment to supporting meaningful initiatives that promote health awareness, women's empowerment, and community well-being.

💗 INSIGHTS FROM DISTINGUISHED SPEAKERS

The event featured distinguished speakers who shared valuable knowledge and perspectives on breast cancer prevention, treatment, and care:

🌸 Dr. Rayana Bou Haka– World Health Organization (WHO), who discussed breast cancer awareness, screening, and the importance of early detection.

🌸 Dr. Nino Carlo S. Cioco– Filipino Medical Association–Qatar, who shared insights on breast cancer prevention, medical care, and treatment.

🌸 Ms. Angelina Alcala– Breast cancer survivor, who shared the invaluable perspective of lived experience, highlighting the strength, courage, and resilience involved in facing breast cancer.

The panel discussion was moderated by RJ Millie G. of Qabayan Radio 94.3. providing an opportunity to further explore these important topics and emphasize the need for greater awareness, education, and support for those affected by breast cancer.

The program culminated in a Pink Lighting Ceremony, symbolizing solidarity, hope, and the collective commitment to raising awareness and encouraging early detection.

We extend our sincere appreciation to IAM Filipina and the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar under the leadership of H.E. Ambassador Mardomel Celo D. Melicor for bringing this meaningful initiative to the community.

💫 Uniting for a Cause: LasDamas DeRizal Doha Chapter Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Event 2026

Doha, Qatar – The Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter, in partnership with Aster Medical Centre, successfully concluded a profoundly significant event in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026. Held on Friday, 09 October 2026, at the Aster Medical Centre in Al Hilal, Doha, the gathering brought together around 40 participants for a morning dedicated to education, support, and hope.

Under the poignant theme, "Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters," the event aimed to foster a supportive community and emphasize the life-saving importance of early detection. The program commenced at 8:00 AM with registration and socialization, where all participants availed of a free medical check-up. This was followed by served refreshments, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the day.

Hosted by Lady Stephanie Adornado, the formal proceedings opened with an invocation led by Lady Gem D. Taburdan, followed by the national anthems of Qatar and the Philippines, and the Las Damas de Rizal Hymn. Lady Sheila Marie Cantos, President of the Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter, delivered a warm welcome address, setting a tone of solidarity.

The event was further honored by an inspirational message from H.E. Mardomel Celso D. Melicor, the Ambassador to the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, which was read on his behalf by Lady Dr. Anne T. Binondo, Founding President of the Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter. In his message, Ambassador Melicor emphasized that "every woman’s experience with breast cancer is different, and that prevention, risk reduction, early detection and timely intervention matters greatly." He urged attendees to become acutely aware of the dangers of breast cancer lurking behind a seemingly healthy body, to undertake regular medical checkups, and to regard patients with more "empathy, genuine compassion, encouragement and loving support." He concluded with a powerful call to action: "Together, let us make every woman’s journey in understanding, preventing and seeking treatment for breast cancer an informed, enlightened and proactive one. Mabuhay po tayong lahat."

In addition to relaying the Ambassador's message, Lady Dr. Binondo took the opportunity to express her profound gratitude to Aster Medical Centre for being the chapter's constant and unwavering partner in this annual program for three consecutive years since the inception of the Las Damas de Rizal Doha Chapter.

A key highlight of the morning was an informative session led by Dr. Srilaxmi Ramachandran, a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aster Medical Centre, Al-Hilal. Bringing over 10 years of clinical experience to the event, Dr. Ramachandran holds an MS in Obstetrics and Gynecology from NITTE University and an MBBS from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. Her extensive expertise covers a wide range of women's health conditions. During her presentation, she provided a crucial medical perspective on breast cancer awareness. An interactive question and answer session followed her talk, during which Dr. Ramachandran profoundly addressed the concerns of the participants, allowing for a deeply engaging and informative exchange.

Embodying the event's theme, the program featured powerful and deeply personal testimonies from two cancer survivors. Ms. Marybel M. Maestrado, a Filipina teacher and wellness advocate, shared her journey in person, while the testimony of Ms. Maritoni Fernandez, a Filipina actress, entrepreneur, and advocate, was presented through a specially prepared audio-visual presentation (AVP). Their shared journeys of resilience and survival deeply moved the audience, reinforcing the message that while every story is unique, no one has to face the journey alone.

The event drew to a close with an awarding ceremony, closing remarks, and a vote of thanks led by Lady Bhem R. Asperilla. As a heartfelt gesture of support, give-aways from Aster Medical Centre were distributed to the attendees.

As the morning concluded, the overarching message resonated clearly among the 40 attendees: Early Detection Saves Lives. The successful gathering not only provided vital health information but also strengthened the bonds of the community, proving that together, we rise for a brighter tomorrow.
