Dog of the Week: Joca 🐾

Meet Joca, a gentle soul who is hoping someone out there will give him the loving home he deserves. 💛

Joca was found wandering the streets and brought to safety. He does have a microchip linked to an owner in Sintra, but unfortunately, the phone number is no longer active, and no one has come forward for him. Now he’s waiting for a new chapter - one filled with love, security, and lots of cuddles.

Joca is around 8 years old (his chip is dated 2017) and is currently located in Mafra, Portugal. Life in the kennel is quite overwhelming for him, so he can appear a little nervous in that environment. But once you spend time with him, you quickly see his true nature: a gentle, friendly boy who absolutely loves affection. He really enjoys cuddles and being close to people. 🫶

Joca doesn’t need much - just a calm, loving home and someone willing to show him that the world is a safe place. After everything he’s been through, he deserves that chance.

Dog of the Week: Duke 🐶
🦴 Approx. 11 years old | Male

Meet Duke - a gentle, sweet-natured senior with the kindest soul. Duke’s story is a sad one; he once had an owner who loved him, but sadly couldn’t continue caring for him due to experiencing homelessness. Through no fault of his own, Duke found himself in a shelter.

Duke has a facial injury that is currently healing, and despite everything he’s been through, he remains incredibly affectionate and trusting. He’s very food-motivated (treats are the way to his heart!) and once he feels safe, his playful side begins to shine through.

This lovely boy would thrive in a calm, loving home where he can finally relax and enjoy his golden years with comfort, care, and kindness. Duke has so much love left to give - he’s just waiting for the right person to see him. 🤍

Dog of the Week - Mel 🍯

Meet Mel, our sweet, smiley girl who was found in Ribamar and is now ready for her next chapter 💛
At around 1 year old, Mel is a big, gentle giant with a heart as soft as her eyes.

She’s strong and beautifully muscular, so she’ll benefit from some lead training - but with her eagerness to please and love of play, she’ll pick it up in no time. Mel absolutely loves playing fetch and is happiest when she’s moving, exploring, and soaking up affection.

Mel would suit a home that enjoys an active lifestyle and is happy to continue her training while giving her all the love she deserves 🐕✨

Dog of the Week - Meet Ben 🐾

Ben’s world changed suddenly when his owner passed away at the end of 2025. He was sadly left alone in the house for a few days before being discovered 💔 and is now in our shelter, trying to make sense of everything that’s happened.

There’s some uncertainty around Ben’s age - his chip lists him as born in 2020 (around 6 years old), though some volunteers feel he may be older. What we do know for sure is that Ben is a gentle, sweet soul.

He can be quite scared inside his kennel, but once outside he shows a much more confident side. With volunteers he trusts, Ben’s personality really shines - he even does little happy hops when he’s running around 🥹

He absolutely loves treats, is very gentle, and just needs a bit of patience and reassurance.

Ben is a sensitive, nervous boy who would thrive in a calm, loving home where he can feel safe again and build trust at his own pace.

Dog of the Week: Meet Taxi 🐶

Taxi is a lively little soul with a big personality and plenty of energy to share. He’s a small-to-medium sized boy who loves movement, enjoys back cuddles, and is happiest when he’s given time and space to feel safe.

Taxi is still learning to trust, especially around his neck and head, so he needs a calm, experienced handler who understands canine boundaries.

What Taxi really needs is patience, consistency, and someone willing to let his true character unfold at his own pace. With the right environment and gentle handling, we believe he has so much potential to blossom 💛

Meet Zinho - a little soul with a huge heart who just wants to be close to his people 🤍

Zinho was found on the streets and does have a microchip, but sadly it appears he was abandoned and we haven’t been able to contact an owner. Despite this, he hasn’t lost his love for humans.

At the shelter, Zinho can feel overwhelmed by the noise and activity — it’s not the environment he thrives in. What does make him light up? Being held, cuddled, and showered with affection. He’ll happily bark to let you know he’d like to be picked up and loved 🥹

Zinho forms strong bonds and enjoys having his special people close.

✨ Zinho would do best with someone who understands that shelter life can be stressful, and who can offer him consistency, reassurance, and plenty of affection.

🐾 FOR ADOPTION: Meet Cappuccino 🐾
10 months old | In foster care

Cappuccino was sadly abandoned and brought to the shelter, but he’s now safe in foster care and truly thriving. He’s a lovely, affectionate boy - super sociable with other dogs and very easy-going with people, including kids.

He’s friendly, cuddly and pretty much house-trained. Outside, we’re currently working with a training leash and recall, and he’s doing really well. He can stay home alone for short periods and is also getting used to spending time in his crate.

Cappuccino is a lively bundle of joy with plenty of energy, so he’d love an active home or a family with another playful dog. He generally does well with other dogs and would benefit from a confident canine role model. He’s shown a little teenage-style dominant behavior, which we believe is linked to his age and recent distractions (there’s a female dog in heat nearby), and he’s responding well to guidance.

Overall, he’s a wonderful, happy boy with so much love to give - and we’re hoping to find him the very best home where he can continue to grow, play, and feel safe. 🤍

Meet Caju - a sweet, gentle boy who’s been waiting patiently in the shelter since May 2025.

Caju absolutely loves humans and thrives on affection. He enjoys walks, treats, exploring new smells, and a good run and play when the mood strikes. He’s the kind of dog who would happily fit into family life or be your loyal sidekick.

🐾 Dog of the week - Rex 🐾

Rex, our joyful boy, is looking for his forever home 🐶🩵

Rex is a sweet, playful dog full of energy and happiness. He loves to run, play outside and soak up every bit of freedom he gets beyond the shelter walls. Nothing makes him happier than cuddles, treats and time with people 🥰

He used to be a hunting dog, so he would thrive with space and regular activity to help him release his energy. Rex is incredibly positive, affectionate and always ready for fun. He’s also very social and gets along well with both people and other dogs.

🏡 Rex would love a family who enjoys beach walks, hiking, running, or relaxed strolls around town. Anything is better than another day in a shelter cage 💔

He’s around 2–3 years old, full of love, and ready to give his whole heart to the right family.

Dog of the Week: Loki ✨🐾

Meet Loki, a resilient and charming boy with a heart as big as his sweet, expressive eyes. Loki came to us after a call about an injured dog on the street. This young survivor had two wounds on his back legs that required stitches, and while we may never know what he went through, one thing is clear - Loki is a fighter with a gentle soul.

Despite his rough start, Loki is healing beautifully and has been nothing but friendly with the people caring for him. He has a soft, thoughtful face that wins everyone over instantly. While his walks have been limited as he recovers, he has shown himself to be calm, curious, and appreciative of every bit of kindness.

He’s an independent guy who prefers human companionship, so he’d thrive best as the only dog in the home. His past on the streets has made him strong and self-reliant, and he’ll do wonderfully with someone confident and steady who can give him the guidance and structure he deserves.

Loki arrived skinny, injured, and alone - but he’s ready for a future filled with safety, love, and a place to finally call home. 💛
