Here we go! 🎭✨

Today, 14 September 2026, Faisal Abu Alhayjaa and Dr Sam Beale begin a new creative journey at Kulturhaus Brotfabrik in Vienna, Austria, kicking off the development of Stand Up Stories: A UK–Palestine Comedy Collaboration.

Over the coming days, Faisal and Sam will work together to develop stories, personal experiences, comedy and improvisation into a new solo performance.

Stories, comedy, improvisation, and plenty still to be discovered.

The project is a collaboration between The Freedom Theatre and Funny Side Collective, with the Vienna development residency hosted by Kulturhaus Brotfabrik.

The project is supported by NOVACT, Spain, and by BSST, through a donation from Southall Trust.

وها نحن ننطلق! 🎭✨

اليوم، ١٤ أيلول ٢٠٢٦، يبدأ الفنان فيصل أبو الهيجاء والدكتورة سام بيل رحلة إبداعية جديدة في النمسا، مع انطلاق أول أيام تطوير العرض الكوميدي الجديد «حكايات ستاند أب»، وهو تعاون فني كوميدي بين فلسطين والمملكة المتحدة.

خلال هذه الإقامة الفنية، سيعمل فيصل وسام معًا على تطوير الحكايات والتجارب الشخصية والكوميديا والارتجال وتحويلها إلى مادة لعرض كوميدي منفرد جديد، تنطلق من تجربة فيصل وصوته الخاص بوصفه فنانًا وممثلًا فلسطينيًا.

حكايات، وكوميديا، وارتجال… والكثير مما لا يزال ينتظر أن يُكتشف ويولد على الخشبة.

المشروع ثمرة تعاون بين مسرح الحرية ومجموعة "فاني سايد كوليكتيف"، فيما يستضيف مركز "كولتورهاوس بروتفابريك" في فيينا فترة الإقامة الفنية المخصصة لتطوير العمل.

ويُنفَّذ المشروع بدعم من منظمة نوفاكت الإسبانية، وبي إس إس تي، من خلال تبرع مقدَّم من صندوق ساوثهول الائتماني.

خمس نساء. ذاكرة تتحرّك.

الدبكة الفلسطينية بعيون خمس نساء. عرض راقص يستعيد الذاكرة ويُعيد تخيّلها، لتصبح الحركة فعلاً جماعياً للتضامن والمقاومة الثقافية.

دعوة | العرض الختامي لمشروع CAPE في جنين 🌿🎭

غدًا، يعتلي أطفال ويافعات جنين خشبة مسرح الحرية لتقديم مخرج فني قصير من تدريبات مشروع الفنون الإبداعية من أجل السلام والمساواة – CAPE، بدعم من مهرجون بلا حدود – السويد.

من خلال مسرح الجسد والحركة، يفتح المشاركون/ات أسئلة من واقعهم: حقوق الطفل، حقوق المرأة، الهجرة، إدمان السوشال ميديا، وسلب الأراضي. عرض من 10–15 دقيقة يصغي إلى أصواتهم، خيالهم، وحقهم في التعبير بثقة.

يتضمن اللقاء عرض فيديو CAPE، وحديثًا قصيرًا عن التجربة، ويُختتم بتقييم جماعي للمشروع.

Invitation | CAPE Final Sharing in Jenin 🌿🎭

Tomorrow, children and adolescent girls from Jenin take the stage at The Freedom Theatre to present a short creative outcome from the Creative Arts for Peace and Equality (CAPE) project, supported by Clowns Without Borders Sweden.

Through physical theatre and movement, the participants bring forward questions from their own lives: children’s rights, women’s rights, migration, social media addiction, and the loss of land. A 10–15 minute sketch that listens to their voices, imagination, and right to express themselves with confidence.

The gathering will also include a short CAPE video, a reflection on the process, and a collective project evaluation.

🎬 THE LAST FRONT | Palestinian Culture and Conditional Funding

What happens when funding is no longer simply a means of supporting cultural work, but becomes a mechanism through which political conditions can determine who an institution works with, what can be funded, and what can be said?

Mustafa Sheta, General Manager of The Freedom Theatre, is interviewed in the journalistic film The Last Front | Palestinian Culture, speaking about Palestinian cultural institutions’ experience of politically conditional funding and the line between legitimate financial and administrative accountability and conditions that interfere with an institution’s independence, identity, decision-making and relationship with its community.

For The Freedom Theatre, this is not a question of rejecting transparency or accountability. It is about defending the right of Palestinian cultural institutions to remain independent in their programmes, partnerships and political and cultural choices, and ensuring that funding agreements do not become instruments for imposing external political classifications on the Palestinian context.

Produced by Palestinian journalist Basim Hasiba, the film brings together cultural institutions and practitioners to examine the complex relationship between international funding and the independence of Palestinian cultural work.

ما الذي يحدث عندما لا يعود التمويل مجرد دعمٍ للعمل الثقافي، بل يصبح وسيلة لفرض شروط سياسية تحدد من يمكن للمؤسسة أن تعمل معه، وما الذي يمكن تمويله، وما الذي يمكن قوله؟

يشارك مصطفى شتا، المدير العام لمسرح الحرية، في الفيلم الصحفي «الجبهة الأخيرة | الثقافة الفلسطينية»، متحدثاً عن تجربة المؤسسات الثقافية الفلسطينية مع التمويل السياسي المشروط، وعن الخط الفاصل بين المتطلبات الإدارية والمالية المشروعة للمانحين، وبين الشروط التي تمس استقلال المؤسسة وقرارها وهويتها وعلاقتها بمجتمعها.

بالنسبة لمسرح الحرية، لا تتعلق المسألة برفض المساءلة أو الشفافية، بل بالدفاع عن حق المؤسسات الثقافية الفلسطينية في أن تبقى مستقلة في قراراتها وبرامجها ومواقفها، وألا تتحول عقود التمويل إلى أداة لفرض تصنيفات سياسية خارجية على السياق الفلسطيني.

الفيلم من إعداد الصحفي الفلسطيني باسم حسيبا، ويناقش، من خلال عدد من المؤسسات والعاملين في القطاع الثقافي، العلاقة المعقدة بين التمويل الدولي واستقلال العمل الثقافي الفلسطيني.

🚌 يعود باص الحرية إلى الطريق.

يُعيد مسرح الحرية إحياء «باص الحرية»، بالشراكة مع فنانين ومنظّمين محليين، للوصول إلى المجتمعات الفلسطينية المهدّدة بالتهجير واعتداءات المستوطنين في الضفة الغربية.

عبر مسرح الإعادة، يروي الأهالي حكاياتهم، ويجسّدها الفنانون في مشاهد مرتجلة. لقاءٌ بين الفن والحياة، تصبح فيه الحكاية شهادةً، والمسرح فعلاً من المقاومة الثقافية والتضامن.

The Freedom Bus is returning to the road.

The Freedom Theatre is reviving the Freedom Bus alongside artists and local community organisers, reaching Palestinian communities facing displacement and settler violence across the West Bank.

Through Playback Theatre, residents share their stories and artists bring them to life through improvised performance. Stories become testimony. Theatre becomes an act of cultural resistance and solidarity.

مسرح الحرية في حوار مع وزارة الثقافة حول العمل المؤسسي الثقافي

شارك مسرح الحرية، الاثنين ٧ أيلول ٢٠٢٦، في دورة نظمتها وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية للجمعيات والمؤسسات الثقافية، بحضور وزير الثقافة عماد حمدان وممثلين عن عدد من المؤسسات الفلسطينية.

مثّل مسرح الحرية عماد أبو هنطش، نائب رئيس مجلس الإدارة، ومصطفى شتا، المدير العام.

تناول اللقاء الأطر التنظيمية والرقابية للعمل الثقافي، وسبل تعزيز التواصل والتعاون بين الوزارة والمؤسسات الثقافية.

نؤمن أن حماية الفضاء الثقافي وتطويره تبدأ أيضاً من مؤسسات قوية، مستقلة، وقادرة على الاستمرار.

The Freedom Theatre joins cultural sector dialogue with the Palestinian Ministry of Culture

On 7 September 2026, The Freedom Theatre took part in a training session organised by the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, attended by Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan and representatives of cultural organisations from across Palestine.

TFT was represented by Imad Abu Hantash, Vice Chair of the Board, and Mustafa Sheta, General Manager.

The session addressed regulatory frameworks for cultural organisations and ways to strengthen communication and cooperation across the sector.

We believe that a vital cultural landscape also depends on strong, independent and sustainable institutions.

يفتتح نادي مسرح الحرية للسينما – TFT CINE-CLUB سلسلة عروضه بالفيلم الوثائقي «جَنين جِنين» (2024) للمخرج الفلسطيني الراحل محمد بكري.

بعد أكثر من عقدين على فيلمه الأول عن مخيم جنين، يعود بكري إلى المكان نفسه، جامعًا بين الذاكرة والشهادة والماضي والحاضر، ومتتبعًا ما يبقى في ذاكرة المكان حين يتكرر الفقد والدمار، وتبقى الحكاية.

يعقب العرض حوار مفتوح بمشاركة الصحفي علي سمودي حول الذاكرة والشهادة، ودور الصحافة والسينما في توثيق جنين وصون روايتها.

Film Screening & Conversation

TFT CINE-CLUB opens its screening programme with Janin Jenin (2024) by the late Palestinian filmmaker Mohammad Bakri.

More than two decades after his first film on Jenin Refugee Camp, Bakri returns to the same place — bringing memory, testimony, past and present into conversation, and tracing what remains when loss and destruction recur, but the story endures.

The screening will be followed by an open conversation with journalist Ali Samoudi on memory, testimony, and the role of journalism and cinema in documenting Jenin and preserving its narrative.
