🌊 Sama… The Girl Who Fell Silent 💔💔💔
On the road from Gaza to Khan Younis, a little girl named Sama sat beside me — silent, yet her eyes spoke a language the world had long forgotten.
She pointed her tiny hand toward the window.
I realized she wanted to see the sea.
I rolled the glass down, lifted her gently onto my lap, and for a brief moment… she smiled.
I laughed and said,
“You’ve been pointing at me all this time! Why didn’t you just call me, sweetheart?”
Her mother replied softly,
“She used to talk a lot... but after what happened two years ago, she stopped speaking. She only communicates with gestures now.”
I went quiet.
Then, against my better judgment, I asked.
On December 7th, 2023, they were trapped in Al-Masqat School —
hundreds waiting for evacuation.
The soldiers ordered the men out first, deceived them, and executed four in front of their families.
Sama’s father was one of them.
Her older sister tried to pull his body back inside —
a sniper shot her.
She bled for nine hours before she miraculously survived.
When the soldiers forced the women to flee west,
her mother suddenly realized: Sama was missing.
For three days, she begged to go back and search.
When they finally let her in, she walked among ruins, ashes, and silence…
until she found Sama, sitting under a broken wall, covered in dust,
staring into nothing.
Three days without food, water, or a single sound.
Since then, Sama has never spoken again.
She doesn’t cry.
She only points —
a tap for food, a tap for water.
Now, she sits beside me, smiling at the sea.
The waves seem to understand her more than we ever could.
I wanted to say something, anything — but no words came.
Just hearing her story was enough to steal my own voice.
And I cursed this world that dares to call itself peaceful.
Even if the whole earth blooms in apology,
it will never be enough —
for Sama.
