تعمل الجمعية على توفير الخدمات اللازمة للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة من مختلف الأعمار, من خلال مركز الزهراء الطبي - مدرسة شمس الأمل للمعاقين إضافة للبرامج والمشاريع المتعدده التي تحصل عليها الجمعية بالتعاون مع مؤسسات المجتمع المدني والمؤسسات الدولية ذات العلاقة

Profile:

SPHP is the first NGO in Gaza Strip which gave the opportunities for the disabled youths to practice their rights in establishing and le

ading their organizations. Its a non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental organization, It aims to improve capacities , empower and enable the marginalized disabled people to meet with their rights and needs and to achieve their integration into community as possible. It runs by a board of directors of 7 members, who are all disabled. The board elections take place every three years. It is registered at the Palestinian Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Social Affairs with a registration No. 3087 and 258 respectively. Organization Vision:

Disabled people ... Human being, enjoying their rights and duties and effectively contribute in the community development. Mission:

We aspire to be the leading organization in community development and reintegration of people with physical disabilities into community through providing PWDS with qualitative comprehensive rehabilitation programs which enhancing their capacities, empower and enable both of people with disabilities and community to meet the rights and needs of PWDs and improving their living conditions in Gaza Strip. Goals:

- To promote the rights for disabled people and to enhance their civil life
perspectives.
- To provide a comprehensive rehabilitation services for the physically disabled
people.
- To provide the medical needs and special aids.
- To improve the educational services and to increase their educational
opportunities.
- To provide vocational training and increase their job opportunities.
- To increase p***c awareness toward disabled rights & needs and promote
- To improve community- base rehabilitation programs.
- To establish an advanced rehabilitation centers at the national level. Target Beneficiaries :

• Direct Beneficiaries are: persons with physical disabilities of all ages, both sexes at the strip level.

• Indirect Beneficiaries are:-
- families of disabled people.
- Community.
- Technical staff “Physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, rehab workers, psychosocial workers, Kindergardians, teachers.
- The students of Universities & collages.

>> Programs, Activities & services:
SPHP provides its long-term multidisciplinary and comprehensive rehabilitation programs & services to more than 11,000 beneficiaries with permanent physical disabilities at the strip level according to the community needs and its strategic plans,. The specialized staff and rehab worker supervise, implement, monitor and evaluate its programs & services, were many of them with physical disabilities. These services are provided free of charge or with a symbolic fee of charge, according to the beneficiaries social conditions as follows:

>> Comprehensive Health care and Medical Rehabilitation programs and services:

>> At the centers level:

- Medical examination and investigations, diagnosis and management plans for 4500 clients monthly.
- Prescription and distribution of medicine and medical disposals for 4500 clients monthly
- Secure & distribute of the technical aids .
- Early childhood intervention programs and services for children with physical disabilities monthly.
- Provide physiotherapy and occupational therapy to both disabled people and community about 250 clients monthly.
- Medical references to the hospitals for further management.

>> Mobile rehab Teams / Home visit Program: -

- - Provide comprehensive health care and medical rehabilitation needs for people with severe disabilities at their homes through regular visits.
- - Home adaptations to be accessible for disabled people.
- - Improve health care and rehabilitation knowledge and skills of the family members of disabled people & the care givers .
- - Provide the home physiotherapy & occupational therapy for clients through regular visits monthly.
- Improve the performance of active daily living activities of disabled people to achieve their independence.

>> The Education programs & services:

The physically disabled children face challenges in their integration into community, because of lack of community awareness toward the rights and needs of them, lack of specialized educational enhancement centers, shortage of specialized staff and technical aids, un adapted accessories of mainstream schools & kindergartens. As well as, most of kindergartens in Gaza Strip are of private business that doesn’t allow the disabled children to join in along with the able-bodied peers. As a result, hundreds of disabled children with moderate to severe disabilities lost their education rights & opportunities. SPHP meet the educational needs of disabled children and enhance their integration into community. Since 1994, two educational Enhancement centers were established, they provides:

- Pre-school and elementary school opportunities for 175 child.
- Programs to improve the active daily living activities and enhance the children independency.
- Programs to improve their educational abilities and tackle the educational difficulties .
- Improve the computer software skills of disabled children.
- Provide the indoor & out-door recreation programs for children.
- Training workshops for the mothers of disabled children to improve their rehab skills.
- - Programs to integrate the disabled children at mainstream schools.
- - Facilitate the higher education of disabled students at collages & universities.
- - Help the disabled students to get scholarships at universities and colleges.

>> Vocational Rehabilitation & Jobs creation
The youth of physically disabled people face challenges in getting job opportunities due to the lack of facilities and technical staff, environmental barrier, and shortage of resources. In addition, the physically disabled adults are subject to misunderstanding, lack of community awareness and isolation within their own community. As a result, poverty and unemployment rate increased amongst them to more than 81% and 73% in Gaza Strip and West Bank respectively. SPHP provides the vocational rehabilitation programs to the physically disabled through two handcraft workshops and two computer training centers since 1994. The society implements the vocational rehabilitation programs not only as job creation but also as an approach philosophy of psycho-social therapy.
- Training courses at software computer programs like using windows applications and printers. For disabled girls:
* Training courses in:
- Embroidery, netting and sewing designs.
- Drawing at wood, Glass & Glaze.
- Ceramic arts on wood.
- Mosaic arts.
- Civilizations cross matching.
- Animation of Palestinian traditions.
- Psychological Rehabilitation & colour therapy. The society works closely with private business sectors and the ministries of health, social Affairs, and labor to promote job creation and increasing job opportunities for disabled people.


>> Recreation & sports programs:
The society established Al AMAL club for physically disabled people to meet with their recreation and sports needs and promote their integration into community. The club establishes different teams of both sexes of disabled people in:
- Wheelchair basketball.
- Table tennis (standing & setting)
- Athletics (Discus, Javeline, Shot-put Field)

Our sport teams and athletes participated in many national, regional, Arabic and international championship completions. They won gold, silver and bronze medals in many sport events.


>> Community Awareness Programs:

The society implement the community awareness programs to increase public awareness toward the rights and needs of disabled people, increase community participation to enhance the disabled people integration into community since 1993. These programs are in the form of:
Training workshops in:
- Early discovery and prevention of disabilities.
- -Early discovery and prevention of the complications of physical disabilities.
- -Psychosocial rehabilitation & medical rehabilitation.
- -Active daily living activities.
- -Education difficulties of physically disabled people.
- -Training workshops in recreational activities for physically disabled children.
- -Sexual dysfunction & rehabilitation of physically disabled.
- -Publishing of awareness brochures in disabilities issues.
- -Publishing Guide books in Rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries and cerebral palsy.
