جمعية الإحسان الأرثوذكسية العربية جمعية خيرية تأسست عام 1907 حيث كانت تسمى آنذاك بالجمعية الدينية الخيرية الأرثوذكسية حتى العام 1953 حيث تغير اسمها للإسم الحالي. كان إنشاء الجمعية بمبادرة من شخصيات مُحبة لعمل الخير من أهالي مدينة بيت جالا تحت وطأة ظروف سياسية وإقتصادية وإجتماعية صعبة ألقت بظلالها على سكان المدينة وسائر أرجاء الوطن، وانعكست على أوضاع الناس المعيشية بسبب شح الموارد الاقتصادية، وبات
المواطنون بحاجة إلى من يُعينهم ويأخذ بأيديهم.
تجسّدت هذه الفكرة، وقامت جمعية الإحسان الأرثوذكسية على أساس مد يد العون والمساعدة للمواطنين البيتجاليين ولا سيما الطبقة الفقيرة والمحتاجة منهم، حتى عرفها أهلها بأنها "الجمعية الأُم" والتي تشكل عنواناً لكل بيتجالي أينما وُجد. وما كانت هذه الجمعية لتقوم لولا دعم المقتدرين الغيورين على مصلحة المدينة وأهلها سواء من داخل المدينة أو خارجها، ونخصّ بالذكر المغتربين البيتجاليين الذين لم يتوانوا لحظة عن دعمها ومساندتها حتى غدت هذه الجمعية مشعل نُور ورمز للخير والعطاء.
يدير الجمعية هيئة إدارية مكونة من أحد عشرة عضواً يتم انتخابهم كل أربعة أعوام من قبل الهيئة العامة للجمعية التي تضم حارات بيت جالا الخمس وهي (حارة الصرار ـ حارة العراق ـ حارة الدير ـ حارة السماعنة ـ حارة الكنيس). The Arab Orthodox Benevolent Society / Beit Jala – Palestine
The Arab Orthodox Benevolent Society (AOBS) is the largest and oldest Orthodox Charitable Society in Palestine. Objectives of the AOBS:
• Providing cash and in-kind assistance to the needy and the poor residents of the Beit Jala, as well as humanitarian and medical assistance to needy families.
• Supporting orphans, widows and the elderly who have no breadwinner and visit the sick.
• Providing support and assistance to other societies in Beit Jala.
• Supporting and sponsoring the Arab Orthodox Scout Troop events and activities.
• Supporting the Orthodox Cultural and Educational Center.
• Supporting the Ladies Committee of the Benevolent Society.
• Participating in most of the ceremonies and religious events in Beit Jala.
• Offering scholarships to high school and university students. Cooperation and coordination with Beit Jala's institutions and Bethlehem Province organizations
AOBS has a strong relationship with many institutions and organizations in Beit Jala and Bethlehem Province. Many of Beit Jala institutions are renting from AOBS by paying symbolic amount or even unpaid. AOBS provides its multi-purpose hall for the use of Beit Jala and Bethlehem Province institutions in various occasions. AOBS has also a strong relationship with the Orthodox Church Trustees in Beit Jala, which resulted in contributing to the success of conducting the religious celebrations especially in Christmas and Easter. The Society’s Income and Resources:
AOBS resources and income depend on the following:
1 Donation coming from Beit Jala's citizens living abroad.
2 Renting AOBS premises in Beit Jala.
3 Donations from international organizations.
4 The Poor Fund from the Beit Jala Orthodox Church.
5 Renting AOBS multi-purpose hall to institutions and organizations. AOBS address:
