Meet one of our seniors, Dwayne.

We don’t know how long he spent on the streets, but he was someone’s dog before. The staff at ADLA spotted him wandering around restaurants, limping on a leg with a large mass. Every time we tried to approach him, he’d growl and run away in fear.

Our caretakers spent nearly two hours trying to safely catch him while people complained that he was getting near their cars or food. Not one person stopped to show him kindness.

But after those long two hours, we finally got close enough to speak softly to him. He completely melted into our arms, tail wagging nonstop.

Sometimes the hardest dogs to catch turn out to be the sweetest souls. We may never know what Dwayne went through before ending up here, but he’s safe now.

Dwayne is currently up for adoption or fostering, and is on the waitlist to have the mass on his leg removed.

❤Memorial Day❤: Remembering the Pets Who Gave Us Everything...

Memorial Day is often a time to remember heroes, sacrifice, and love that never fades. For many of us, it is also a moment to quietly remember the loyal companions who once filled our homes, hearts, and lives with unconditional love.

Our pets are family. They stood beside us through our happiest moments and comforted us during our hardest days.

They greet us with joy, teach us patience, and love us completely without asking for anything in return. And though their lives are never long enough, they give us everything they have until they simply cannot anymore.

Anyone who has loved and lost a pet understands the silence that follows.

The empty bed in the corner.
The leash still hanging by the door.
The routines that remain long after they are gone.

Yet even in grief, there is gratitude — gratitude for every walk, every cuddle, every paw print left on our hearts.

One of the most beautiful ways we can honor the memory of a beloved pet is by helping another animal still waiting for a chance at love. Memorial Day can become more than remembrance — it can become a legacy of love.

This Memorial Day, we remember the wagging tails, gentle eyes, playful spirits, and unwavering loyalty of the pets who shaped our lives forever.

They may no longer walk beside us, but their love never leaves.

And perhaps the greatest tribute we can give them is to pass that love forward.

Ways to Honor a Pet This Memorial Day:

Because every rescued animal represents hope — and every act of kindness keeps the spirit of the pets we loved alive.

This is Creed. We found him on the streets of PR months ago and you can see just how bad it was. Locals said he wouldn't make it but we had other plans for this little warrior. He’s completed his heartworm treatment and will be retested in 6 months to make sure the treatment was effective. He still has issues that we’re working on. He has no pads on his back feet, so they get sores and we’re working on healing and a solution to prevent the irritation.

He’ll be coming home next week or the week after, so we can have more intensive care. This took a lot of work but frankly, it's all worth it.

We cannot stress how important the live screening of the PBS documentary was for our little shelter. We struggle daily to find people to help us, funds to keep the organization going and the drive to continue. Without this support our 50+ "sato" dogs at the shelter could NOT make it. So again thank you all for showing up and being a part of this last Saturday.

If you want to continue on this journey with us, then follow us here and we'll show you some of the most uplifting stories to keep your day POSITIVE when everything around us can be so negative.

Shout out to @ for these amazing pics!

Meet our loving pup, Frederick!

He left to a foster home for one week in hopes of finally finding a family of his own. For one week, he’ll get to experience the things every puppy deserves: quiet mornings, a soft bed, affection, and life outside the shelter. A chance to feel what being loved in a home is like.

Frederick is sweet, gentle, and ready for a forever family.

We hope that through the foster and enough visibility, he’ll find a forever family and the life he deserves, and it doesn’t become just a temporary goodbye to shelter life. DM us for more info on Frederick.

We would just like to take a moment and recognize that some countries get it right and others are lagging behind greatly when it comes to animal welfare. Thank you Germany. You are one of the good ones.

And that's a wrap on our Amigos De Los Animales watch party! Thank you to PBS and our partners over Studio True North for making such a fantastic film and as well as Di Zucchero Italian Restaurant - Condado for hosting and Starla Fortunato for the fantastic pics of the event (coming soon)!

This was a great event that had a lot of people involved to make it happen and we want to thank EVERYONE that has been involved. The staff at ADLA, caretakers, volunteers and especially to the stars of the show - our little SATO's. If each one could talk they would say Thank You so very much for helping them when no one else would. Everyone who came together for this event we just want to say THANK YOU & God Bless!
