Appointment of Training Administrator (TA)

ZSU is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick K. (NK) as the new Training Administrator (TA) of San Juan CERAP, effective immediately. With Nick’s appointment, Alfred had officially handed the TA torch over.

Nick has been a committed member of ZSU for a long time, and has recently been appointed as an instructor of ZSU. Nick trained numerous students at ZSU, and with his proven track record of quality training, along with his professional experience, the ZSU team is certain that Nick’s addition to the staff team will be bring valuable improvements to the ZSU Academy.

Nick will report to Alfred (ATM) and dotted-line report to Francis (VATCAR3).

Kick off the season with Summer Nights in San Juan! Join us on June 28th from 1900Z to 2200Z (3pm to 6pm local) at TJSJ for a night of Caribbean ops with ATC. Whether you're flying in or out, enjoy the warm island breeze, scenic arrivals, and top-notch ATC coverage!

For any one attending FlightSimExpo in person this year, please come by the VATSIM Live ATC Display station between 3pm and 6pm ET on Saturday 6/28 to meet the ZSU staff team and other ZSU controllers and see us controlling the Summer Nights in San Juan Event live at the venue. This is a rare chance to meet in person the voices you are familiar with when flying in the ZSU airspace!

Announcing ZSUSOT (ZSU Special Operations Team)

For those of you who enjoy a variety of flights, from VFR in your favorite GA aircraft over our beautiful islands to flying the big boys landing on Runway 8 at SJU, have you thought about helping our controllers with more opportunities of live training? We are now creating a new group called ZSUSOT, or ZSU Special Operations Team. Everyone active member on this Discord is free to join ZSUSOT and next time when there is a live training session that would need the presence of you and other fellow pilots, the mentor/instructor would announce the specific need and the date and time in ⁠ZSUSOT Discord Channel. We would only ping those with the Discord role so you would be the first to get the notification. No obligation or requirement to fly, just fly if you want to.

Establishment of Events Team and Appointment of Assistant Event Coordinator

I am please to announce the appointment of Jiancarlos P. as the Assistant Event Coordinator of ZSU effective immediately. In addition to JC's service in the training team as instructor, he will be taking on additional work helping with event planning at our facility leverage his connections with VATUSA and other parties on the network. Together with Ethan, they will form the events team at ZSU as we explore additional events in the near future. Please join me in welcoming JC to his new role and wish him success.

VATSIM First Wings - Caribbean
Have you made a VATSIM account, but feel intimidated every time you try to speak on the frequency? Or have you yet to make an account in fear that you haven't got what it takes yet? Then this is the event for you!

At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. To help overcome that VATSIM created the First Wings events, dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the procedures, and what is expected of them.

This episode of First Wings will connect two dynamic airfields: José Martí International Airport, and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport . Depart José Martí International Airport from 2000z-2200z and securing your slot is very recommended to ensure less delay and flawless experience.

Both before and during the event experienced and patient controllers and pilots will be on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. You may join the discord through https://community.vatsim.net/ . If you do not use Discord, VATSIM Supervisors will be on hand during the events, and can at any time be reached via a .wallop.
