Sinai, Egypt 2025

Respecting the ban on taking photos in the Saint Catherine Monastery in Sinai, we do not have photos of mosaics this time 😔 And these ones are very interesting!

One of them - in the basilica - shows biblical scenes of the Transfiguration of the Lord, commissioned by Emperor Justinian. Thanks to this ruler, the monastery gained its splendor. However, it was at the request of Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, that the first chapel was built here, which is said to be accessible by going a few meters down below the level of the courtyard (the door is locked with triggers - in the photo).

So as not to leave you with nothing, as part of our mosaic exploration, we present two contemporary mosaics in the monastery. One of them was made on the wall under a burning bush (note the hand "in the heavens" - is the ring finger bent or missing? 🤔), the second one decorates the entrance to the museum with brilliant icons and manuscripts (photographing is also strictly prohibited).

-----------------------------------

Żeby nie zostawić Was z niczym, w ramach naszych mozaikowych poszukiwań przedstawiamy dwie współcześnie wykonane mozaiki w klasztorze.
