Documentation of ”Sinners” exhibition (30.10 - 04.12.2025) at in Budapest dedicated to q***r history of Hungary.

’The current political narrative surrounding the LGBTQ+ community in Hungary—and elsewhere in the world—is alarming because of its attempts to portray as “unnatural” the lives of people who fall outside a heterosexist, binary social logic by birth—not by choice.

Since 2021, the “promotion” of homosexuality and gender assignment has been prohibited in schools and in institutions accessible to minors; q***r-themed books may only be sold in shops wrapped in plastic; and this year, the government attempted to ban the Pride march on the grounds of its allegedly “harmful” impact on underage minds. However, the event ultimately took place, and it did so with a record-breaking number of participants.’

This exhibition is the first such a review of q***r art created in Poland presenting works of LGBTQIAP+ 🌈 people from 2015-2023, i.e. from the period of the Law and Justice government.

The exhibition focuses on how art became a space not only for exploring identity, but also a form of resistance, a manifesto and a tool of the solidarity fight for human rights.

The 8th of April 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the death of Vaslav Nijinsky (Wacław Niżyński).

Bisexual superstar, the greatest male ballet dancer of the early 20th century was born in Kyiv, into a family of Polish émigré dancers.

Nijinsky was christened in Warsaw and identified himself as Polish although he grew up in the interior of Russian Empire where he was not allowed to speak Polish at school.

Nijinsky’s career was cut short due to mental health issues. He suffered from schizophrenia, which led to his early retirement from dancing in the mid-1910s. He spent much of his later life in psychiatric care and passed away in 1950.
