Paul Bargetto (1969, USA) creates theater, performances, festivals, and dance that operates in the interplay between non-fiction modalities like documentary and photography, and fiction including dramaturgy, poetry, storytelling, and the concept of the absurd. His theater and dance performances mix multiple mediums such as music, song, text, and collage, utilizing myth, ritual, and humor. His work has been presented primarily in New York City, and throughout Europe. Recent credits include, Memoryhouse, and Every Minute Motherland with choreographer Maciej Kuzminski, International Agency for Ukraine! with the House of Beautiful Business, and Album Karla Hockera, and California with Teatr Trans-Atlantyk.
Currently based in Warsaw, Poland, Paul Bargetto is the President and Founder of Fundacja Teatru Trans-Atlantyk, an NGO dedicated to producing live and digital arts through three initiatives: Teatr Trans-Atlantyk, a documentary theater ensemble, Eldorado Teatr, a digital live arts platform, and The Flying Studio of Theater and movement, a program of physical theater, dance, and body awareness workshops . Before coming to Europe, he lived and worked in New York City where he founded the theater company East River Commedia (1998-2010). Important productions include St******se and Out at Sea, Philosopher Fox and Serenade, The Magnificent Cu***ld, and A Couple of Poor, Polish-Speaking Romanians. He also founded and directed the undergroundzero festival, a festival of experimental independent live arts (2007 -2014) that was presented in six incarnations in numerous locations throughout the East Village and Lower East Side including PS 122, Collective:Unconscious, Clemente Soto Velez, and the Living Theatre. In 2005, he helped to found the League of Independent Theater, advocacy organization for independent theater in New York City. He served on the board of directors and as the managing director of public affairs for five years.
