Celebrating Nigeria at 65: Dialogue, Diversity, and Development in Lublin, Poland
With a fantastic moderation by Dr. Malwina Bakalarska, the 65th Nigeria Independence Day Conference in Lublin, Poland was a day of deep reflection, inspiring conversations, and cross-cultural celebration.
Held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Conference Hall, Room 252, ul. Spokojna 2, the event brought together diplomats, policymakers, academics, and community leaders under the theme: “Emerging Trends and Current Reforms Influencing the Nigerian Economy.”
Organized by Diaspora Events, the conference celebrated Nigeria’s independence while exploring key issues shaping the nation’s socio-economic trajectory and the role of the diaspora in global progress.
The event began with a warm introduction by Mr. Niyi Aderibigbe, President of Diaspora Events, who welcomed guests and highlighted the significance of continuous dialogue between Nigeria and its diaspora. In his opening remarks, Mr. Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin who was represented by the Deputy Mayor Mr. Tomasz Fulara emphasized how cultural diversity enhances community growth and development. His message resonated deeply, acknowledging the Nigerian community’s contribution to the city’s cultural vibrancy, business and social life. delivered by Mr. Lawal Saka, Head of Chancery and representing the Mr. Samuel Terver Amuh, Minister/Chargé d’affaires, a.i., Embassy of Nigeria in Warsaw, the keynote address explored Nigeria’s evolving economic reforms, investment climate, and innovation-driven growth. He also highlighted the critical role of the Nigerian diaspora in supporting national development and fostering global partnerships and a part of the on-going reforms championed by the Nigerian government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A third session on the topic "Barriers to Accessing Financial Services in Poland" led by Ms. Anna Gola of Santander Bank led a practical discussion on financial inclusion, where she highlighted some initiatives of the Santander Universidades for soft skills acquisition. The audience further engaged discussions addressing the challenges migrants face in accessing banking services and proposing strategies for greater inclusion and empowerment within the Polish financial system. Fourth was on the topic, Migration and Health – From Margins to Mainstream led by Anna Szadkowska and Dr. Tetiana Makushak, Program Managers at AHF Poland, shed light on the health experiences of migrants and the need for inclusive healthcare access. Their talk underscored how integration in health systems contributes to social cohesion and community resilience, and the session on Uniting the Nigerian Diaspora for National Progress and Global Impact Dr. Emmanuel Kalejaiye, Chairman of the Nigeria In Diaspora Organisation (NIDOP), inspired the audience with a powerful call for unity and collective engagement. He emphasized that a connected diaspora can be a strong force for national transformation, innovation, and global impact.
The day concluded with an engaging networking session, cutting of the independence cake and refreshments, followed by closing reflections, wrap-up discussions, and heartfelt votes of thanks — marking the end of a truly memorable celebration of collaboration and identity.
The 65th Nigeria Independence Day Conference in Lublin, Poland was not just an event, it was a bridge connecting cultures, ideas, and people as emphasised at the event by Niyi Aderibigbe's message that as we celebrate Nigeria’s 65th year of independence, this gathering is to reaffirm a powerful message that our strength lies in unity, our growth in collaboration, and our future in shared purpose backed by the statement of the President Bola Ahmed of Tinubu on the 1st October, 2025 that "let all hands be on deck. Let us believe, once more in the boundless potential of our great nation." Under the expert moderation of Dr. Malwina Bakalarska, the discussions highlighted the shared values of innovation, inclusivity, and progress that bind both Nigeria and Poland and the entire participant all agreed that these steps are to more partnerships, more progress, and a brighter future for all.
