International Institute for Molecular Oncology

International Institute for Molecular Oncology Artificial Intelligence-Driven Biomedical Ecosystem for Precision Oncology. Non-profit research ins IIMO founders: Prof. Maciej Wiznerowicz, Prof. Prof. S. Giulio. M.

IIMO has been established by distinguished experts in experimental and clinical medicine and ICT as a non-profit foundation meeting the requirements of a Public Benefit Organisation. Jan Lubiński, Prof. Andrzej Mackiewicz, mgr inż. Przemysław Wronek
The founders have extensive experience in conducting translational biomedical studies and processing, analysing and collecting Big Data. Furthermore,

the founders have a substantial experience in the implementation of biomedical studies and ICT solutions to the economy. Their achievements in scientific implementation include over 1,100 scientific publications in renowned international journals with over 22,000 quotes. The founders have also developed tens of patents, many of which have been implemented to the Polish and global economy and established many businesses in the fields of information and biomedical technologies aimed to commercialise their solutions. Some of the businesses have operated on the market for over 30 years employing a total of nearly 500 specialized staff. The IIMO activities will be supervised by the Institute Scientific Board composed of distinguished experts in experimental and clinical oncology and ICT in Poland: Prof. Bożena Kamińska-Kaczmarek, Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Prof. Cezary Szczylik, Oncology Department, Military Institute of Medicine, Warsaw; Prof. Magdalena Chechlińska, Immunology Department, Oncology Centre – Maria Skłodowska Institute, Warsaw; Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, Department of Internal Medicine and Hypertension and Angiology, Medical University of Warsaw; Prof. Wojciech Cellary, Department of Information Technologies, Faculty of Informatics and Electronic Economy, Poznań University of Economics and Business; Prof. Andrzej Mackiewicz, Department of Medical Biotechnology, Poznań University of Medical Sciences; Prof. Jan Lubiński, Department of Genetics and Pathomorphology, Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin; Dr inż. Aleksandra Świetlicka, Chair of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Computing, Poznań University of Technology. The IIMO is strategically guided by its International Scientific Committee, composed of distinguished international experts in experimental and clinical oncology and ICT. Waldemar Priebe, professor of chemistry at MD Anderson Cancer Centre and innovator in the area of drug development in oncology, serves as Chairmen of the ISC and is responsible for its activities. The aim of the Committee is to set directions for the Institute’s research and development. Among experts who have declared to participate are: Prof. JM Lehn (Nobel Prize winner), Prof. Chouaib (v. Dyrektor IGR), Prof. Draetta (vice president of MD Anderson Cancer Center) and others. IIMO has a legal form of a non-profit foundation that fully meets the requirements of a research and knowledge-dissemination organisation as defined by the Commission Regulation (EU) No. 651/2014 of 17 June 2014. The Institute’s activity is independent from the existing scientific structures as required by the call of proposals, the national strategy of cancer control and the strategy for development of innovative

science in Poland and European Union. The Institute does not run any business activity as defined by the Act of 2 July 2004 on the freedom of economic activity. IIMO is research organisation actively involved in research and dissemination of knowledge. Examples include affiliation of IIMO in the PanCancerAtlas TCGA international project, managed by National Cancer Institute at National Institutes of Health (NIH). Wiznerowicz serves as PI of the Stemmness Analysis Working Group. A. Mackiewicz, Prof. B. Kamińska-Kaczmarek, Prof. C. Szczylik are participating in 3 Analysis Working Groups of the project. IIMO is actively involved in dissemination of knowledge and is co-organizer of the 9th International Congress of Contemporary Oncology to be held in March 2016. IIMO is registered at POL-on system as the International Scientific Institute. IIMO is also registered at NIH eRA Commons grant management system and SAM.gov as research organisation fully eligible to receive funding from the government of USA. IIMO is registered at the PLUS-IP platform and actively participates in further development of this initiative. In March this year the Institute will be hosting Dr Jo Anne Zujewski, director of Breast Cancer Therapeutics, in the Clinical Investigation Branch of the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) of the National Cancer Institute. Dr Zujewski is the scientific liaison and disease expert for breast cancer clinical trials sponsored by the CTEP program of the NCI. Dr Zujewski has obtained the fellowship from US Department of State and will be Visiting Professor at IIMO for 1 month. The IIMO has recently joined The Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) multicenter and interdisciplinary project coordinated by National Cancer Institute at NIH. CPTAC represents a comprehensive and coordinated effort to accelerate the understanding of the molecular basis of cancer through the application of robust, quantitative, proteomic technologies and workflows. The IIMO has been awarded 4-years contract from NIH funded by federal funds from government of the United States. The headquarters of IIMO is located in Poznan, 23 Kraufhoffera Street. It possesses proper research premises with necessary back office, IT and environmental infrastructure. It gives full possibility for adequate spending of the public sources in the scope of described research by IIMO. Modern IIMO headquarters are equipped with ecological solutions and secures human friendly environment. All rooms are air-conditioned and ventilated. The building is prepared for the installation of research equipment, which requires special environmental conditions and laboratory facilities for analysis. There’s access to high- speed Internet. The building possesses a effective Ethernet and WiFi network infrastructure. All data is secured according to PN-EN 270001 norm. There are conference rooms and library. Location of IIMO in Poznan, big university center, close to the city center, with good access to public transport facilities, as well as A2 highway node, enables better accessibility to necessary staff for the project.
