Since 1996, the department has sensed the need to diversify its activities by arranging Ophthalmic courses through networking with other reputed training institutes of the country. All such efforts are continuously made to ensure a skilled and knowledgeable workforce at operational level, ready to meet the new health challenges while continuing Leprosy surveillance for next few decades.Till date, the National Training Institute has trained over 550 Leprosy Technicians.

Today, we were honoured to welcome Mr. Nadeem Ibrahim, Director, Special Education Teachers Training Academy Sindh (SETTAS), Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), and Dr. Muhammad Shabbir, Deputy Director, SETTAS, DEPD, to MRC Centre.

During their visit, they explored our rehabilitation services, appreciated the efforts of our dedicated team, and spent valuable time interacting with our children. Their presence brought smiles and created meaningful moments for our little ones.

We are grateful for the continued support of DEPD and SETTAS towards MALC. Their commitment to staff capacity building and training is highly appreciated, and further training opportunities for our staff are also being planned.

Our respected guests appreciated the central location of MRC Centre and acknowledged that, despite being situated in the heart of the city, we are providing comprehensive and quality rehabilitation services for children with Neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Their appreciation and encouragement inspire our team to continue striving for better services, inclusion, and brighter futures for every child.

As part of the BMZ CL Project, MALC has taken the next step in its vocational training programme at the 2nd location - MALC Malir Centre, in support of women affected by Skin NTDs, including leprosy, leishmaniasis and scabies, and their family members.

The training focuses on sewing, embroidery and handicrafts, helping participants develop practical skills for greater self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

The inauguration was marked by Tehzeeb, one of the beneficiaries, who cut the ribbon in the presence of the MALC Head Office and Malir Centre teams, opening a new chapter of learning and opportunity. With 40 women per batch across morning and evening shifts, the programme continues to create opportunities for women to learn, earn and move forward with confidence.

Empowerment begins with opportunity.
