District Forum Meeting | Umerkot

Education is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right. Ensuring that every child has equitable access to quality education requires responsive institutions, stronger community voices, and coordinated action.

Under the Aawaz-II Programme, implemented by AWARE with the support of CARE International in Pakistan and funded by UK International Development from the UK Government, the District Forum Umerkot held its meeting on 21 August 2026 at Ghousia Guest House, Umerkot.

The meeting brought together Village Forum representatives, education officials, relevant government departments, civil society, journalists, and Aawaz-II resource persons to raise and discuss education-related issues identified by communities.
Participants collectively emphasized that barriers preventing children, particularly those from marginalized and underserved communities, from accessing education must be addressed through stronger institutional accountability, inclusive planning, improved service delivery, and meaningful community participation.

The Forum reaffirmed that community concerns should not end with discussion. They must be translated into concrete actions, institutional responses, and sustained coordination between communities and duty-bearers.

The meeting concluded with agreed action points to strengthen coordination and pursue practical solutions to education challenges raised by communities across Umerkot.

AWARE appreciates the support of Care International Pakistan under the Aawaz-II Programme in Umerkot, funded by UK International Development from the UK Government.

🌍 World Humanitarian Day | Humanity in Action 🌍
On World Humanitarian Day, اويئر pays tribute to humanitarian workers, volunteers, community leaders, and ordinary people who stand beside communities in times of crisis, hardship, and uncertainty.
Humanitarianism is more than feeling another person’s pain. It is about taking action to ease suffering, protect dignity, restore hope, and help communities build resilience for a better future.
From responding to disasters and climate emergencies to improving access to safe water, education, health, livelihoods, protection, and essential services, every compassionate action can make a meaningful difference.
On this day, let us renew our shared commitment to a world where human dignity comes first and no vulnerable community is left behind. 🤝💚
True humanity turns compassion into action.

🌱 Thar Is Not Barren. It Is Waiting for the Right Solutions🌱
For generations, Thar has been portrayed as a land of barren soil, saline groundwater, drought and scarcity. And whenever a crisis strikes, the response too often begins and ends with ration bags, food packages, water tankers and bottled water.
Relief saves lives in emergencies. But relief alone cannot build resilience.
The real challenge is to move beyond repeatedly treating the symptoms and start investing in the natural resources, knowledge and capacities that already exist in Thar.
At اويئر, we have been working with a different question:
What if Thar’s challenges can also become part of its solutions?
☀️ Thar has abundant sunshine.
💨 It has strong wind potential.
💧 It has groundwater, although much of it is saline.
🌱 It has land that can support carefully selected crops and plants.
👨‍🌾 And above all, it has resilient communities with generations of indigenous knowledge.
Instead of ignoring these resources, اويئر has been exploring ways to put them to productive use.
Through solar PV, renewable energy and innovative approaches to saline agriculture, our experience has shown encouraging results. We are now taking another important step: promoting fruit-bearing and fodder plantation to strengthen household nutrition, livestock resources, livelihoods and long-term food security.
🌳 The photographs in this album are evidence of possibility.
These plants were provided with the support of TDH Germany a couple of years ago. What were once small saplings are now growing trees in the landscape of Thar. They demonstrate a simple but powerful lesson:
Invest in a family today, and you may feed them for a few days.
Invest in their knowledge, productive resources and environment, and you help strengthen their resilience for years.
This year, more suitable fruit-bearing species are being provided to communities. We are also exploring a Five-Colour Fruits & Vegetables Model 🥭🥬🍅🍆🥕, encouraging households to diversify locally suitable fruits and vegetables so that climate adaptation is connected directly with nutrition, food security and healthier families.
Our vision is not merely to plant trees.
It is to explore whether the desert landscape can gradually become a productive mosaic of fruit trees, fodder, climate-resilient crops and household nutrition gardens, powered where possible by renewable energy and managed by local communities.
Thar does not need to remain permanently dependent on relief. It needs long-term investment in its people, natural resource base, climate-resilient livelihoods and locally appropriate technologies.
We invite farmers, researchers, agriculture universities, nutritionists, climate experts, development partners and friends of Thar to share their knowledge, feedback, innovations and support.
🌱 Let us not only respond to the next drought. Let us help Thar become stronger before it arrives.
