DIGITAL HUB CHAGHI
The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) is the leading institution focused on eliminating poverty in Pakistan. With an
experience of over a decade, PPAF concludes that local and community-based institutions are key to creating a positive
outcome and proving effective.
The Health Education and Environment Program (HEEP) is a local Non Governmental and NonProfit Organization having
a vision “Balochistan, a place where every single person enjoys a prosperous life” and motivated in achieving a mission,
which states “To work for deprived people of Balochistan for their uplift and betterment with special emphasis on
empowerment of under-privileged and marginalized groups particularly women and children through enhance literacy,
awareness about education, health, livelihood and human rights, which eventually lead to a prosperous life”.
PPAF felt the need to build the capacity of small organizations in Balochistan, Khaber Pakhtoonkhawa and FATA. HEEP
was one of the selected organizations in Balochistan. After intensive training on various subjects, HEEP submitted a
concept note for Pilot Project, subjecting establishing a digital hub in district Chagai, for the local community of the area to
connect digitally and in response HEEP received funding from PPAF to establish Digital Hub. The hub started its function
in December 2019 and is running successfully to date. The customers of the digital includes; Community Members,
male/female Students, Government Employees, Internet surfers, and common people. The operations of the Digital Hub
sustain its operational cost and little bit savings for hard times.
The HEEP is looking forward in expanding its operation by; (1) incorporating manufactures digitally to introduce their
products in the district (2) introduce afterschool programmes designed to give local young people an opportunity to be
creative, develop filmmaking skills, since mobile video clips making is in trend among youngsters. (3) Youngsters, who
may have limited exposure to music and digital media, which also helps them to develop skills necessary for further
education and future careers (4) a free digital literacy initiative to help residents who have limited experience of
communication tools and the internet, to get online and find out how the Internet can benefit them in their everyday lives.
