Community economic development starts with its roots in the individual, interior person. Each human being is a subject with an interior life, having his/her own identity of values, beliefs, customs and attitudes, some of which interiorize external conditions of poverty. A humanist development intervention must start with focusing on the interior person by touching the heart, changing v
alues and beliefs, overcoming fear and a sense of separation. In simple words A true development initiative should start with empowering individuals which will lead to empowerment of the communities. SPEED will work with individuals and communities to empower them by making them realize their true worth by providing them an environment conducive for empowerment. Empowerment helps individuals overcome the sense of personal isolation, the act of participation creates a bond between individuals which leads to interconnectedness and pluralism providing the a foundation for globally connected communities. The goal of Development cannot be achieved unless women and the resources they represent are integrated into the development process. The knowledge, insights and experience of both women and men are required if development is to be both effective and sustainable.
