The Regional English Language Office at the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, Islamabad, is pleased to announce the English Language Specialist for the month of October!

Please join us in warmly welcoming Claire McLaughlin as she explores 'Service-based Learning in the ELT Classrooms' on Thursday, October 14 and 21, 2021 at 5 pm PKT.

"It is a pleasure to be part of this amazing series. My name is Claire McLaughlin and I am currently an instructor, curriculum designer, and teacher trainer at Global Launch of Arizona State University. I am fortunate to say that I have been teaching English as a second language for thirty years. My journey as an ESL teacher began in Japan where I taught English in a small community to students from 4 years old to 80 years old. I have also taught ESL in public elementary and middle schools, community programs, intensive English programs, community colleges, and universities. Like many teachers around the world, I am adding teaching online to my experience as well. My Masters degree is in Education with a focus on ESL. Service learning is one of my passions, and several of my students have participated in a variety of service learning projects. I look forward to sharing them with you." - Claire McLaughlin

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫: David Courtney is an English Language Specialist who teaches university students in Kurdistan, Iraq. He earned his M.A. TESL in 2017 from Northern Arizona University (USA). He is a lifelong learner, so his favorite teaching approaches help students develop their socio-emotional well-being and higher-order thinking skills, through learners' context. Since 2009, he has taught in Vietnam as an English Language Fellow (2017-2019), the US (2011-2017), and Peru (2009-2011). Currently, he is looking forward to meeting dedicated teachers in Pakistan.
