This is how one girl changed the lives of hundreds with this one thought: "Forget the 80 million, start with one".

*Correction: Maggie has a home with 50 children, the 200 number was meant to refer to the students that attend the Kopila Valley School. These students are not all orphans.

An Afghan girl blows bubble gum while cooking for her family in Kabul, 2007.
Photographer: Farzana Wahidy

Born in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in 1984, photographer Farzana Wahidy was only a teenager when the Taliban took over the country in 1996. At age 13 she was beaten in the street for not wearing a burqa. Her photos of daily life range from men selling balloons on the streets to the secret lives of female prostitutes. And Wahidy was not the only one to recognize the need for this type of photography in Afghanistan. She is now part of the recently created Afghan Photography Network.
Of the eight women in her original photojournalism program, Wahidy is the only one working as a full-time photographer. Some got married, and others stopped working for reasons unknown to Wahidy. Wahidy, meanwhile, plans to continue for a very long time.

I don't want to show my trophy to anyone except my father. My mother has been telling me since my childhood that my father will come when I'll become a doctor. Now I am promoted to grade 5 but my father is not here to see me and my trophies. Whenever I ask my mother where is my father living and why is he not coming to see me, she replies that my father is living in a world where he can't come till I become a doctor. So this is the reason I like to study, work hard and win trophies.

Ayesha is a family member of I Am school system. She doesn't know that her father is on a life sentence in a false murder case.
