- About 11 million rural people (22% population) face acute food insecurity (Nov 2024-Mar 2025).

- 20.7% of the population is undernourished; 40% of children under 5 are stunted.

📉 Post-Harvest Losses

- Pakistan loses 30-45% of perishable fruits & vegetables and 15-20% of cereals annually.

- Economic losses run around Rs400-500 billion ($1.3 billion) yearly.

- Punjab loses 20-30% of wheat and over 40% of fruits/vegetables; Sindh loses 30-45% perishables.

- Poor storage and handling are the main causes.

🔒 Food Safety

- Foodborne illnesses affect 1 in 5 people, causing $1.7 billion productivity loss yearly.
- Pakistan launched a comprehensive food control system (2025) to align with international standards.
- Improved food safety is crucial to reduce malnutrition and support economic growth.
