No woman should lose her life in the name of so-called “honour.” Gullaan Bharo’s tragic death is a painful reminder that survivors of abuse need protection, justice, and safe spaces — not pressure to return to danger.
We urge authorities to ensure strict accountability for those responsible and to strengthen protections for women facing domestic violence and honour-based abuse in Sindh and across Pakistan. Silence against such crimes only allows this cycle of violence to continue.

پنجاب میں چائلڈ میرج کے خلاف بڑا قدم، 18 سال سے کم عمر بچیوں کی شادی پر پابندی
لاہور: صوبہ پنجاب میں کم عمری کی شادی کے خلاف ایک اہم اور تاریخی قدم اٹھاتے ہوئے حکومت نے نیا قانون منظور کر لیا ہے، جس کے تحت 18 سال سے کم عمر بچیوں کی شادی کو مکمل طور پر غیر قانونی قرار دے دیا گیا ہے۔ اس قانون کا مقصد بچوں خصوصاً بچیوں کے حقوق کا تحفظ اور ان کے روشن مستقبل کو یقینی بنانا ہے۔
اس نئے ایکٹ کے تحت کم عمر بچیوں کی شادی کروانے، اس میں معاونت کرنے یا سہولت فراہم کرنے والوں کے خلاف سخت قانونی کارروائی کی جائے گی۔ ماہرین کے مطابق یہ قانون معاشرے میں مثبت تبدیلی لانے اور تعلیم کے فروغ میں اہم کردار ادا کرے گا۔
اس حوالے سے *سوہا فاؤنڈیشن ہیلپنگ ہینڈ کی سی ای او سوہا بخاری* نے اپنے بیان میں کہا کہ
"یہ قانون لاکھوں بچیوں کے محفوظ مستقبل کی ضمانت ہے۔ ہمیں خوشی ہے کہ حکومت نے بچیوں کے حقوق کے تحفظ کے لیے ایک مضبوط قدم اٹھایا ہے۔ اب وقت ہے کہ ہم سب مل کر اس قانون پر عملدرآمد کو یقینی بنائیں۔"
*سوہا بخاری* نے مزید کہا کہ
"کم عمری کی شادی نہ صرف بچیوں کی تعلیم کو متاثر کرتی ہے بلکہ ان کی صحت اور ذہنی نشوونما پر بھی منفی اثر ڈالتی ہے۔ اس قانون کے ذریعے ہم ایک بہتر اور محفوظ معاشرے کی طرف بڑھ رہے ہیں۔"
انہوں نے زور دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ سوہا فاؤنڈیشن ہیلپنگ ہینڈ اس قانون سے متعلق آگاہی پھیلانے کے لیے بھرپور مہم چلائے گی تاکہ ہر بچی کو اس کے بنیادی حقوق مل سکیں۔
یاد رہے کہ سماجی کارکنان اور تنظیمیں طویل عرصے سے اس قانون کے لیے جدوجہد کر رہی تھیں، اور اب اس کی منظوری کو ایک بڑی کامیابی قرار دیا جا رہا ہے۔
