Over 9.3m births registered in 17 months

LAHORE:More than 9.38 million births were registered across Punjab between January 2025 and May 2026, according to official data provided by the Punjab Local Government and Community Development (LG&CD) Department under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act, 2013.

The information was shared in response to an application submitted by LHC Advocate Sarmad Ali. According to the report, 9,387,840 births were registered in Punjab during the 17-month period.The data shows that 600,416 births were registered in January 2025, followed by 589,697 in February and 586,647 in March. Registrations declined to 498,066 in April, 478,430 in May, and 364,160 in June 2025.

The numbers increased again in the second half of the year, with 583,581 births registered in July, 561,711 in August, and 566,652 in September. The highest monthly total for 2025 was recorded in October, when 617,511 births were registered, followed by 545,141 in November and 548,514 in December.

For 2026, the report shows that 554,259 births were registered in January, while registrations reached 651,981 in February, the highest monthly figure during the period covered by the report. This was followed by 479,437 registrations in March, 633,642 in April, and 433,595 in May 2026. The figures are based on birth registrations maintained by the Punjab LG&CD Department and supplied in response to the right-to-information request.
