Details of women, children prisoners sought

LAHORE : A right to information application has been submitted by Advocate Sarmad Ali to the Inspectorate General/Public Information Officer of Punjab Prisons, Lahore, seeking details about women and children detained in prisons across the province.
The application has been filed under Article 19-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973, read with Section 10 of the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013 and the rules notified thereafter. The applicant has sought specific information regarding the number of women and children currently detained in Punjab prisons, including those accused or convicted of drug trafficking as well as those identified as drug addicts.
The applicant has also requested details about the locations of their detention, including the names of the prisons where they are being held.
In the application, the Advocate Sarmad Ali has asked the authorities to provide the requested information within fourteen working days of receiving the request, in accordance with the law.
The application states that failure to provide the information within the stipulated time may result in a complaint or appeal being filed before the Punjab Information Commission for redressal of his grievance
