On Monday, the Lahore High Court issued a notice to the Punjab government on a civil miscellaneous plea seeking a direction to the school authorities to include a column for "transperson" in the gender part of all admission forms.
A member of the transgender community, Muhammad Nawaz alias Ashi Jan, submitted the application in an ongoing main suit, asking for the ex*****on of certain sections of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018.
On behalf of the petitioner, advocate Shahbaz Akmal appeared in court and said that the colleges/universities' entrance forms only listed "male" and "female" options in the gender field, but not "transperson."
He said that the act was discriminatory against a group that was already marginalized.

This is a novel initiative of Ujrat to outline the laws ever framed to protect the legal rights of the transgender community. We will share a series of prime clauses from the Pakistan Transgenders Act-2018 to enlighten the public about the existing rights of the transgender community.

Nisha Rao has become the first transgender in Pakistan to be accepted to study law. Rao got admission in University of Karachi to pursue her LLM degree. She suffered a lot in her life to achieve this status. She stood against her elders who forced her to adopt s*x work or begging as a profession. She utilized the money she earned from begging to pay for law school. After years of hard work, she received her law degree and gained license of Karachi Bar Association in 2020.'
