The Department of English organized the debate competition on the ISSUE OF KASHMIR on November 15, 2023 at the Auditorium Hall, BBSUTSD Khairpur Mirs.
The primary goal of the competition was to furnish students with a platform for expressing their opinions, refining their communication skills, and fostering critical thinking on significant issues. Worthy Vice chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar honored the occasion as the chief guest, adding grace to the event.
The competition began with an insightful opening address by Mr. Syed Asim Ali Shah, the Focal Person of the English program. His remarks played a pivotal role in effectively setting the tone for the event's proceedings.
During this competition, over 15 students from various departments actively participated, showcasing their impressive communication, oratory, and debating skills. These speeches covered diverse range of topics focused on the issue of the Kashmir which includes Human Right Violation, Bloodshed in Kashmir, UN Resolutions and International Involvement etc.
The competition garnered significant attention and it was attended by dean, directors, chairpersons, faculty and a huge number of enthusiastic students. The competition was adjudicated by Mr. Syed Abul Qasim Shah, Lecturer (BS&RS), and Mr. Arif Zia Memon, Lecturer (BS&RS).
In his concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar , Vice Chancellor of BBSUTSD Khairpur Mirs, emphasized the crucial role of strong communication skills, public speaking, and persuasive abilities. He motivated students to enhance their spoken English, underlining the significance of these skills in personal and professional development. Prof. Dr. Mahar highlighted how debate competitions contribute to honing communication skills, grooming, improving confidence, and cultivating courage among the participants.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar highlighted the gravity of the Kashmir issue, describing it as a matter of life and death. He earnestly requested the entire audience to stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir by observing a one-minute silence, emphasizing the deep significance of empathy and support for those affected by the conflict.
In the culmination of the event, cash prizes were presented to the well-deserving winners. The first-place honor was achieved by Tehseen Ahmed (CET, Batch -22), followed by Ume-Habiba (Foundation Semester) securing the second prize, and Fawad Ahmed (CET, Batch -22) attaining the third position.
